We are planning on being in Portland Aug 11-14. Where would you suggest as a good neighborhood to stay? We would like to keep lodging costs to %26lt;#100/nt. We will have a car but is there a central location where a number of sights are within walking distance? Also, if you have local dining favorites (B,L,D) you would like to share, we would aprreciate it!
Thanks in advance for guiding us in our first visit to the Portland area!
Portland August 11-14Try these first then you can ask specific questions.
My favorite hotel is the 5th Avenue Suites.
My favorite part of town would be the NW or downtown at the 5th Avenue Suites.
Most of Portland is easy to get to by walking or riding streetcars, you will probably not take the car out except to go on a day trip or two.
I have included my restaurant lists..by sections of town.
What is B,L,D?
Hope this helps get you started :)

Portland August 11-14Thank you, Scarlett01! Having a local%26#39;s input on area restaurants is such a luxury when new to a city.
Thank you for all of your great suggestions--it is much appreciated!
Scarlett has great info on her lists.
I would add, for breakfast, another great place is Lorn %26amp; Dotties.
More thoughts...yes, the 5th Avenue Suites is a great hotel and good central location. Normally the rates are more than $100/night, but you might want to call and see what you can negotiate. For hotels in that price range, you might try Priceline. I have not used it, but others here have with good results. If you don%26#39;t mind being about 5 minutes away, try the Kennedy School (a McMenamin property). Great place, very unique and fun, and within your price range.
You are welcome shewoo, I love my hometown so I enjoy sharing :)
Friends were just visiting Portland this past week and they stayed at the MarkSpencer hotel. They had a very nice room with an excellent buffet breakfast included in the room rates, so check them out. They are about 2 blocks from Powells and the streetcar line runs past the hotel ..
