brewpubs and seafood rest near marriot or benson
Within walking distance of the Benson would be Jakes Crawfish on SW 12th %26amp; Stark..
Across the street by the corner of SW Broadway is Typhoon (Thai) and Pazzo (Italian)
Hop on the streetcar on Stark and go to Bridgeport Brewery on NW Northrup ..
This should get you started :)
brewpubs and seafood rest near marriot or benson
thanks for the info scarlett. is the marriott city center near the bensor?
No I believe the Marriott is on Naito Pkwy, where construction is ongoing and the Benson is on SW Broadway and Stark..putting the Benson right in the middle of town and the Marriott at the Southern end of town..I think :)
The Benson, I think, is the best for location..and not a bad choice, it is a very nice hotel with a nice restaurant/grill and a very good Steakhouse, El Gaucho. I don%26#39;t think you would go wrong at all in picking the Benson :)
Yeah, there are two Marriotts in downtown Portland, the one on the waterfront Scarlett%26#39;s thinking of, and city center, just up Broadway from the Benson. A Marriott is a Marriott, so I (again ;-)) agree with Scarlett; pick the Benson. I liken it to Portland%26#39;s version of the Waldorf Astoria.
Ack! mistletoe! yes, there is a big Marriott on SW Broadway~duh :D
Tom:
The Marriott and Benson are within a block of each other along Broadway. Either location is great.
There are several brewpubs in the area of downtown you%26#39;re in. Scarlett mentioned Bridgeport and taking the streetcar; the pub/restaurant is probably 20 blocks from these hotels so it would be a long walk. It%26#39;s at NW 13th/Marshall. Rogue has a pub that%26#39;s a little closer for walking (by 5-6 blocks) at NW 14th/Flanders. There%26#39;s a Rock Bottom (chain) restaurant/pub at SW 2nd/Morrison, but I haven%26#39;t been terribly impressed with their beers. Definitely the closest brewpub to your hotels is Tugboat Brewing on Ankeny just north of Broadway; however, it%26#39;s kind of a dingy little place (lots of ';character';?) and their beers are iffy (at least the 3 that I%26#39;ve tried).
Though its not a brewpub, Henry%26#39;s Tavern at 12th %26amp; W. Burnside (about 6 blocks from the hotel) has a good list of 100+ beers on-tap, lots of which are NW/Pacific craft beers. They also have an excellent (and cheap) happy hour from 3-6pm every day. Food prices $2-4 in the bar, but no drink discounts. Despite the ';Tavern'; in the name, its really a pretty upscale restaurant, located in the refurbished brick edifice of Henry Weinhard%26#39;s Brewery, built in the 1890%26#39;s. Worth a visit.
Hope you have a good trip!
Cheers,
Brian
Hi there! Jake%26#39;s Crawfish is very good. If you do stay at the Benson, the London Grill is right there. We had a very elegant, nice lunch there last summer. The crabcakes are very good and the London Grill is actually the one PDX restaurant to be awarded the AAA 4 Diamond Award for service %26amp; style. Cheers! :)
Thanks all for you valuable information
tom
Henry%26#39;s is great. Brian gave a good description of it. It opened just over 2 years ago and we have been quite a bit and always enjoyed it. The bar has an ice trough which is nice to keep your drink cool. Just outside the bar area is some outdoor seating. That can get pretty crowded, but on a nice night it is great.
hi everyone
Visited Portland last week on business. Did have time to go to henrys and rogue brewpub. Went to henrys for lunch. We both had
fish sandwiches (halibut and salmon) along with tomato/basil soup.
both excellent. at the Rogue brewpub we had snacks(crab cakes and black bean dip and nacho chips) and of course a sampler of there beer. For someone who loves coffee and
beer this town is heaven. I stayed at the marriot city center and visited a coffee shop at each corner near the hotel. i think my favorite was peets. They had the strongest regular coffee.
my only concern was that there are alot of young kids(teens/20%26#39;s) beggin on the street)
again thanks all for your help
tom
