Clothes & weather along coast

Keep in mind we are from Florida. Shoes were mentioned cotton soft sneakers? What if any rain gear would you suggest ? I looked up averages for mid-October. It seems that high 50%26#39;s-low 60%26#39;s during the day, and 40%26#39;s at night. Is that correct? If we decide to do some cabin camping, what should we bring for clothes? We hopefully will be staying at campgrounds along the coast with cabins. Cabins have heat, but are we talking long underwear? We are still in the 90%26#39;s here, so 50%26#39;s sound quite cool. We tend to enjoy night walks, star gazing, oceans sounds..., what can we expect during 7-10 P.M. hours. Layers of clothes are great, but suitcase is getting plum full. Hats, beanies or hood jackets? I don%26#39;t think we need gloves? Is ponchos good for the rain or mist? Should we buy rain suits? We definitely are planning tide pools and beach exploring. My wife asked some questions before and she said she got some great advice and tips, so if I missed anything please just type away. Thanks so much, Pencar

We go to the beach often in the fall---our usual ';attire'; is jeans, hooded sweatshirt, waterproof jacket of some sort, sneakers if it%26#39;s not raining too hard; or waterproof shoes if it is pouring.

I would not invest in a rain suit; if it%26#39;s raining super hard and you still want to walk on the beach, you can buy a cheap, vinyl poncho that will keep you dry.

Walking on the beach is almost guaranteed to be windy---a polar fleece ';headband'; that covers the ears might be nice if it%26#39;s really howling but I wouldn%26#39;t invest in one until you are here and realize it%26#39;s needed; an inexpensive knit cap would be an alternative.

The beach is super casual--jeans, sneakers, sweatshirts--I cannot think of one beach location where I wouldn%26#39;t feel comfortable in the above attire.

Camping? Boy, I cannot help you there--long undies might be good there; you could use them as jammies or under your clothes if necessary, but, I have never worn long undies at the beach.

The weather lately has been marvelous---I hope it continues for you!

Scissors is right with the attire at the beach- jeans %26amp; sweatshirt, jacket and possible hat. And rain gear bought here-if you need it.

As far as cabiin camping- it sounds as if it has heat so I wouldn%26#39;t think you would need long underwear- esp. in October on the coast- but if you%26#39;re used to 90 degree weather- it might be cold to you. If you have some sort of sweatpants/sweatshirt to sleep in along with your useual nightly attire you should be ok.

I%26#39;ve stayed in the Yurts(with heat) at the State Parks in the winter and they seemd pretty toasty to me once the heater got going.

On the coast this time of year it could throw you just about anything short of freezing and snow. Layers is usually a good idea. If you get a nice day you can wake up in the low 40%26#39;s and if the wind doesn%26#39;t pick up too much it could get to the mid 70%26#39;s and that doesn%26#39;t seem too warm but when your coming from 40 in the morning the 30 degree rise is a lot. You may want light colored clothing. If it is sunny but there is a cool breeze it tends to get the dark stuff hot and you want to take off your coat and when you do you get cold.

I doubt long undeware will be nessesary. As for shoes if you%26#39;re going to be climbing around the tide pools I would wear so sturdy shoes with good traction. The rocks can be rough %26amp; jagged and closer to the water, extremely slippery. And bring extra shoes %26amp; socks to change into in case your feet get wet. If it does rain a poncho is pretty useles IMO if you are planning on doing any activities. It%26#39;s fine to get from the car to a building or just walking around a bit but your legs are not very protected. You can get light two piece rain gear that comes in a small pouch and it%26#39;s pretty cheap but it%26#39;s not very tear resistant so you need to watch where your walking. You can get them big enough to go over coats and such.

For evening walks you may want some light gloves. Be sure to keep your head covered too. Even a small breeze can get chilly. Standard highschool football game gear here is a hoodie under a light to heavy coat depending on temp. Usually jeans stave off the cold on your legs.

Hope this helps and have a great time here on the beautiful left coast.

Thanks, pencar, for being responsive. I wish every person asking questions would be as polite. In case it has not been said, and you are worrying about packing too much, life is very casual/rustic for most of what you have chosen to do. My SO brings only one ';semi-formal'; change only for the occasional ';night out'; as no one will see you two nights in a row :).

All above information is right on.

Keep in mind thatfor Yurts and cabins, whether they be in State Parks or KOA, etc, require you to provide your own bedding (ie: sleeping bag). I%26#39;ve never flown with a sleeping bag and probably wouldn%26#39;t b/c you can pick up cheap $15 bags at about any department or sporting goods store. A light-weight on is fine b/c both Yurts and cabins have electric heat.

Fror information on Yurts and cabins in State parks, go to www.oregonstateparks.org

Den

Don%26#39;t fill your suitcase with weather gear.

We have rain suits, but rarely take them to coast even in winter, too much weight. But we do do as scissors says have the cheap rain ponchos when we know it will be wet week.

If i was coming from FL I would bring one coat with hood some what rain resistant thigh length, and not heavy. We go to coast a lot and i never wear down jacket.

Been long time since I wore long johns, upstairs at night in E Oreg winters

Guess key is how toasty will your cabins be.

I take head band even in summer to cover ears, for sure I would have them in Oct. and in winter take some sort of light mitten.
