Great/Good/ hotels Lloyd Ctr./Portland

During the Labor Day and Sept 15-19th, we had the pleasure of staying at a number of hotels in the Lloyd/convention center area.

90% were booked on Hotwire. All these hotels are near MAX and major buslines/routes. I rode public transportation 90% of my time there in Portland.

Our first hotel was the Jupiter; a %26#39;re-do%26#39; of a 50%26#39;s 2 story motor hotel. I will have to say the platform bed was firm, the towels were thick and our room quiet. But this isn%26#39;t the place to stay if you are one who wants real hotel %26#39;amentities%26#39;. The room is done in the IKEA decorating esthetic (literally)...so things are VERY spartan..but functional. If you are over 50 years old, I%26#39;d say avoid the Jupiter.

The 2nd hotel was the wonderful Courtyard by Marriot. We just loved the pillow top mattress, large bathroom and big room with nice cotton sheets. Pool and jacuzzi were great..but no lotion, shower cap or other %26#39;extras%26#39;. Also, the AC unit was very loud and cycled endlessly all night long. Parking is a steep $7.00 per nite..but metered street parking is available. Free internet downstairs for checking places to eat, airline check in.

Our 2nd stay in Portland consisted of the Jupiter (see above), La Quinta Inn and the Holiday Inn--all at Lloyd.

My husband and I were very pleasanty surprised at the La Quinta--a place we%26#39;ve never stayed before. While the outside of the hotel looked a bit on the shabby side, the staff was ALWAYS hard at work cleaning the entire hotel (emptying trash, filling breakfast items, etc). Although our shower was tiny, the bed/mattress was on par with the Marriot--a king size pillow top very comfy! Also shampoo, soap, but no lotion, shower caps and fluffy thick towels. The free continental breakfast was also higher end. They had juice, cereal, pastry, hot oatmeal, and best, waffle makers for hot waffles! This alone for the convenience of early AM breakfast made this place a winner. Also, free parking in their lot to boot!

The Holiday Inn was also on the older side...and you can see they tried very hard to %26#39;update%26#39; the place with new paint, marble floors and such. Basically, you can%26#39;t make a silk purse from a sows ear.

Our room was supposed to be %26#39;quiet%26#39; and non-smoking. Instead we faced the parking lot to hear garbage trucks and tour buses very early AM. The room smelled horribly of cig. smoke...even though it was a %26#39;non-smoking%26#39; room. The queen mattress was firm, but nothing like the King at La Qunita or Marriot. At least they had free internet access in the lobby (to check in to our airline)...and a pool/spa that wasn%26#39;t mentioned via icon...from the hotwire site. Also, free parking in their large lot was a nice bonus!

Hope these reviews help if you are staying in this part of the city.

Thanks! We are considering staying at the Courtyard later this fall, for a potential extended visit. Nice to hear that it was comfortable, but I am a little dismayed to hear that they charge for parking!
