Hello, Folks, and sorry this is belated. My trip of Sept 24-25 was frenetic but great. Thank you again for all of your advice.
I LOVE PORTLAND! (And the weather was sunny and around 80F; where%26#39;s the gray?)
Anyhow, although I stayed in the midst of downtown (at the Hotel Vintage Plaza), I saw no streetpeople. I walked around Sunday night until about 10pm. The place was clean and, yes, seemed safe. Or maybe it was the Indian Summer?
I%26#39;ll be back Oct 11-14 and will stay at the 5th Ave Suites. Maybe this time I%26#39;ll feel less secure, but I doubt it.
On past trips we saw plenty of homeless folks by the Burnside Bridge, but not one of them approached us or seemed acutely aggressive. Standard for city areas near shelters. Better than SF or DC.
Thanks much,
Celle
p.s.Update for my TA friends: I found us a beautiful and affordable house to rent up a hill from PJA. So that huge stress is relieved. And my job interviews are going very well, plus it%26#39;s a blast being pampered in such luxurious hotels. The Vintage Plaza was gorgeous, absolutely perfect. I%26#39;ll enjoy this while it lasts!
No trouble that I could see!
Fabulous!!
I think you will love the 5th Ave Suites even more..So glad the job interviews are going well, you are almost a Portlander!!
Please do keep in touch, so happy for you.

That sounds like exactly the Portland we know and love. So happy you had a great time.
We also tried out the Vintage Plaza recently - took one of those suites with the hot tub on the private balcony overlooking the city. Awesome. Way overpriced, I think, but oh well - you only live once!
So glad to hear that things are falling nicely into place for you:)
