Oregon Coast Trip

I%26#39;m flying into Portland on the 21st, and staying for 2 nights. We will then be leaving early on the 23rd for Astoria and a drive down the coast back to California (one way car rental). I need to be back home in SF by the evening of the 26th.

I will be spending 3 nights along the coastline. Any suggestions as to how I should split up the travel? I plan on doing the Calif. part in one day, as I%26#39;ve seen this part before. I appreciate any help or suggestions you can make. Thanks.

Oregon Coast Trip

I%26#39;d stay right around Cannon Beach for my first night, second night would be down towards Florence...or Yachats (stop by Devil%26#39;s Churn just south of Yachats)...third night would be in Crescent City....then home past the Redwoods to San Fran.

If you were camping, I%26#39;d stop at Florence on my first night, Cape Blanco on my second night and Gold Bluffs Beach (California) on the third....mmmmm...Gold Bluffs.....*drool*

Oregon Coast Trip

Thanks for the suggestions oWhiteRabbit. I like the recommendation for Cannon Beach and Yachats. I need to read up on Florence, don%26#39;t know much about that.

What about the 3rd night, is there nothing you%26#39;d recommend further down toward the Oregon broder? We aren%26#39;t camping so that isn%26#39;t an option. Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Gold Beach is a pretty nice town with some good hotels.

Yes, Gold Beach is nice. If you just want a nice comfortable place to stay, the Sand n Sea is great. Get an oceanview room, there are trails that lead down to the beach.

Cannon Beach is a nice place to spend time in. If you want to stay in Astoria, the new Cannery Pier Hotel is awesome. I have some photos posted under the Astoria Hotels section. If you want to stay in downtown Astoria, the Hotel Elliott is really cool. The Vintner%26#39; s Room and the rooftop garden help make this a unique place to stay.

We enjoyed a 4 night stay in Seaside last June at the Tides by The Sea. We had an upstairs oceanview 2 bedroom unit complete with a fully stocked kitchen for around $90/night. Have a great trip! :)

Hey TheToz,

I second WhiteRabbit%26#39;s suggestions of Cannon Beach and Yachats, and Gold Beach is probably as good as any for your last night in Oregon. You%26#39;ll want to give yourself plenty of time on the 25th for the drive between Port Orford and Gold Beach. Scenery in that stretch is some of the best you%26#39;ll see any where.

What kind of accommodations are you looking for? If it%26#39;s in the budget, you get a big bang for your buck at Overleaf Lodge in Yachats. It sits on a low bluff just above a narrow, rugged beach, so you might think the waves will be crashing into your room.

Lots of options in Cannon Beach, but September is still high season, so some places may have minimum stay requirements on the weekends. Ask if you%26#39;d like recommendations, and include budget.

When did you last stay at Sand %26#39;n Sea, syrahgirl? Hey, I just noticed, you and TheToz might be neighbors!

I watch the Oregon posts because I grew up on the Central Coast in the Jurassic era. I keep noticing that a certain poster from points south who says she a vacation ';cottage'; near Seaside, yet mentions staying 4 nights in Seaside at a motel. How does this person find time to do anything other than post? Thanks to all the Oregonians for your alert help in maintaining the accuracy of the Oregon forum.

linnmac---LOL, the Jurrasic era:) BTW, BINGO on noticing our little dustbunny:)

Hey there linnmac,we lived in Oregon at the same time ! I love peeking in at the forums, its keeps me informed of all things Oregon as I still visit twice a year.I inform my Oregon family of where they should eat,new places to stay, good routes to take etc, they think I%26#39;m amazing.! Yes,the dustbunny has been confusing and annoying many on this and other forums for ages. And in case you missed one of the million or so times its been mentioned---she has a seaside cottage!

Let me think.... If you and kipsmom lived here in the Jurrasic era, linnmac, that probably makes me a prehistoric Oregonian. ;-)

Have you noticed that certain poster also occasionally shows up on forums in your neck of the woods? She%26#39;s still recommending the same hotel and restaurants from a short stay in Seattle 3-4 years ago, as if it was last week that she was there.

Where are you, TheToz? You need to bring us back on-topic. ;-)

TheToz, we just spent a few days at the Coast and I really enjoyed Cannon Beach ( shopping %26amp; eating) ..we stayed at the Inn at Arch Cape..and loved Manzanita. Oswald State Park is one of the beautiful areas to wander and spend time, I would just skip Seaside/Astoria and head South on 101..What a beautiful Coastline!! I have lived here a year and keep falling in love with the place :)

re: dustbunny

LOL, I read the Seattle questions for that visit, ( 2004) recently, it makes perfect sense since most recommendations for the PNW are repeated over and over with outdated information..
