OK....We moved here from sunny Orlando August 14 and almost every day since I have seen nothing but sunshine!
I am beginning to feel that this is like the Greenland/ Iceland trick to keep people away!
I grew up in Southern California and whenever I would visit New York hoping for snow during Thanksgiving or Christmas there would never be any. the day I would leave, my inlaws would call me to say it just started snowing and they were having a blizzard!
It happened every time AFTER I left!
just wondering if Seattle is really like Hawaii but none of you are telling!

So where's the rain?????
Smile! The amount of rain here has always been a conventional wisdom, albeit untrue. Many cities have more rainfall than Seattle. However, as you have heard, it can be overcast during the late fall to early spring months. This has been a good year. And a warm winter is forecast. Welcome to the area.
So where's the rain?????
heehee.....
I grew up in CT and have lived here for over 10 yrs. I had the exact same thought when I moved here as well!!!
Spoke to a friend about this (a Native Oregonian) and she told me that ';Rainy Oregon'; is a myth that Oregonians perpetuate so people won%26#39;t move here.!!! Even my first experience with Seattle rain....it was no more than a Coastal Mist!!!
All kidding aside...Even when it rains here, IMO, it%26#39;s more like a lovely sprinkle. Not the torrential downpours/thunderstorms that are common in the East. Winter can be gray.
My favorite things: no humidity and no such thing as crowded beaches!!!
Welcome to the most beautiful state in the US!!!

LOL:)
Ok, I was born and raised here in Oregon. I LOVE the rain!!! Grew up in Salem, where we got more than here. Lived in Seattle for a few years too, and we had more rain there than here (we lived in what was called the convergence zone tho). Ask my family...I have been complaining about the no rain!!!!!!
And like the others say, when it does rain here...it is more of a misty/drizzly type than a downpour (usually). I remember working in Orlando and that 4pm rain shower, followed by a steam bath...ick!!!
I saw that forecast for a warmer winter...I hope they are wrong. Course I was in heaven when we lived in upstate NY in a log home on a mountain and got dumped with snow for about 8 months of the year. Yes...I realize my preferences are not the norm:D
LOL elle, the same thing happened to us, we moved here last Aug and it was day after day of sunshine! What was up with that??
But then , around Halloween, it got a bit damp lol...my husband had a harder time with it than I did , I can deal with the sort of rain we get here....much better than the Fl downpours ( hurricanes) and NY winters ( downpours %26amp; snow)...
I am actually looking forward to a cool grey day....
According to my son who lived in Seattle for a while, no, it is not like Hawaii LOL
Wait for it!!!

Aside from the rainy part of the year, you will find that Portland is a dry city in the summer.
Check the climate / rainfall averages.
West Oregon, is classified as a ';Mediterrenean Clmate'; - one of about 5 spots in the world with that classification.
That means very dry summers.
Portland is very often, fairly dry during a lot of September.
So it may be dry, but not too far off the mark.
heard that an el nino may be forming.
:(
Mt hood sure looks brown too... :(
not good for our fishy friends.
So where%26#39;s the rain????? Sssshhhhhhh...... ;-)
Hey, we had SOME! Yes, I was in heaven:) The dog loved it too...but the poor thing takes forever to dry. The fireplace seems to be her friend on days like yesterday abd Sunday.
I think it knew we were gone. It rained on way home from airport to welcome us back Sunday night.
My wife came to Oreg when she was in jr high. we now have grandkids that age. but she still has hard time with the many grey days in oregon.
Like others raised here I enjoy the rain, like the sound on the roof. at night
