airports?

Which airport can I fly into that is the closet to Newport?

Yeah, we%26#39;re talking about our next trip. But I%26#39;m not driving. Hubby wants to drive but I%26#39;ll fly and he can pick me up somewhere along the way.... LOL -- trying to see if there is another airport closer than Portland.

airports?

Eugene would be the next largest airport, and not too far from Newport.

airports?

Mahlon Sweet Field (EUG) in Eungne is a nice, medium-sized airport. It%26#39;s a breeze to check-in (seldom are their long lines), it only has one terminal and even the long-term parking is very close. That%26#39;s the good news. The bad news is it is not served by every major airline. United, Delta and US Airways have the most frequent flights and thus the best schedules. Alaska/Horizon also serves EUG. It is also generally more expensive than PDX by about 10-15%.

I live 60 minutes from EUG and 3.5 hrs from PDX, so I%26#39;m more than happy to pay the extra amount for the convienience. It would be nearly a two hour drive from Eugene to Newport. The quickest route would be to drive hwy 99 up to Corvallis and take hwy 20 to Newport, but you could take hwy 126 to Florence then hwy 101 to Newport.

Den

It%26#39;s about 3 hours to drive from portland to newport, so i guess you would be saving about 1 hour drive time.

Eugene is a bit quicker to Newport, but not a lot may 45 mins depending on traffic out of portland

Guess it could depend on how husband feels about the extra time to Eugene.

Though for sure Eugene easier airport to use and find someone.

Sky West flies non-stop from SLC to Eugene.

One other thought - North Bend Airport is about the same distance from Newport as Eugene - Horizon Air flies there from Portland, just something to keep in mind to expand your possible options.

Siletz Bay Airport is right there by Lincoln City, but I don%26#39;t know of any real airlines that fly in there - just private planes, I think.

Newport hgas an airport, even had commercial flights there back in Air Oregon days. That did not last long, but you could hire a private pilot say out of Eugene

I did a quick check with skywest and didn%26#39;t see anything non-stop. So, it made it a 4-6 hour trip.

And yes, it is cheaper from SLC - Portland with many direct flights. I didn%26#39;t mind the drive at all from Portland to the coast. That%26#39;s the way we went and coming home, we went thru Bend.

Our next visit, I%26#39;d like to make it more into winter. I%26#39;d love to see and experience some of the storms there off the ocean.

Delta 3780 to EUG - 1:59 Flight Time

Delta 3937 to SLC - 1:58 Flight Time

Flies every day, leaving about 11:45AM and departing about 9:30PM.

Price I just saw was $5.00 less than the cheapest flight on Alaska through Portland - don%26#39;t know what your dates are, but food for thought. Make sure to check the Delta website - all the flights aren%26#39;t always on Expedia and co.

hmmm.. how did I miss that?? I was in a hurry while looking (lunch time at work). Well, that%26#39;s good to know. Do you think they always have non-stop flights all year long? I%26#39;m not sure when we%26#39;ll go again. We were just there last week.

I was hoping to be able to go back sometime in the winter.

I would rather fly into Eugene than Portland because it%26#39;s smaller. I just loved the Kauai airport. So nice and small.
