We are planning a trip mid Oct. so far it is coming together, because of your help! Our question is once we are finished with Crescent City, Cal. to see Redwoods, we would like to explore beachcombing and tidal pools, light house and more. Also, we want to rent a buggy for sand dunes, we want to rent them ourselves(3 person). We have from Crescent city, Cal to Astoria in about 5 days maybe less. All 5 days should be for coastal sight seeing. As it was mentioned in our last topic -do rental car stores rent hybrids?? I like the idea of less polution! Take the polution seriously to the commercial place!

Not sure about the hybrids, I would email the rental companies. :)
From Cannon Beach north I can help alot, just ask more specifics.
From just S. of Cannon Beach to Cannon Beach is great hiking (Ne-ah-kan-ie Mt) And lots of beach pull offs, one has a huge cave with a waterfall, another Hug Point where mailcarriers went around. There are more.
Here are a few go-Lists I wrote for the area.
I haven%26#39;t done a Seaside one yet, but I grew up there so just ask!

And for beachcombing- check tidal book or the front of our local telephonebooks. also after a storm is the perfect time.
The Cove (approx ave U in Seaside) is a good spot, sometimes gearhart... otherwise I would just enjoy and see what you find. For Tidal Pools I like Haystack Rock area. Or Indian Beach (Both at Cannon Beach Oregon).
There are alot of great lighthouses so I would do an internet Search the ones I remember most are just north of Newport.
Here is a go List for Astoria _ I also do a local post now and then so check out the Forum for Astoria for those.

Hope you have a great time!

Hi There-
I would suggest the Cape Perpetua area on the central coast as a place to go tidepooling. Although it can be a little sketchy if the weather is bad. if you have small kids keep a hold of them here. If you want a tamer tidepooling experience(or in case of bad weather) try Yaquina Head area-also on the central coast. They have a great path that is even wheelchair accessable. Also Yaquina Head has a light house there as well. Seal Rocks, Sunset Bay and Cannon Beach could also have some interesting tidepools. Can you tell I like to tidepool? Any place that has some sort of rocks has the potential for tidepools. Have fun and be safe! Don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve been at the coast before- but please make sure you always keep an eye on the water and have an escape route incase you find yourself in a %26#39;sneaker wave%26#39;(an unusually large wave- common in the winter).
We just got back from a coast trip and had a fun time on Ten Mile beach at Ft. Bragg. A part of that beach is called ';Glass Beach'; because of the huge amount of beach glass there. We were there at the wrong time of day for tide pools but it looked like there could be some truly great tidepools there.
Yaquina Head Lighthouse is one of my favorite spots---you can venture up the lighthouse (I think it closes at 4:00 p.m.), or down to tidepools. Two for the price of one! : -)
It%26#39;s located just north of Newport:

The area from Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint, north to just north of Yachats (this includes Cape Perpetua, which was mentioned earlier) is arguably the best along the coast for tidepooling.
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area stretches 42 miles between Coos Bay in the south and Florence. There are no less than 6 businesses that will rent quads and dune buggies along this stretch, so you shouldn%26#39;t have problem finding one with the type of equipment you desire.
If you go to an Oregon state park check their brochure rack for the Oregon Coast Lighthouses pamphlet. It gives you info on all the lighthouses up the coast.
Here is a website of a dune buggy rental place that has multi person vehichles. Most only have one person.

Hope this helps a little.
Thought I posted response, but not here??
My tide pool experience mostly Depoe bay to Yachats. Seal Rock and north of Otter Rock our favorites. Though at really low Yaquina head is one of best. we were there at -2.0 last year.
I think at -1.0 Seal Rock and Otter Rock a bit better
we don%26#39;t go if higher than -1.0, but we go often enough to be choosy. but you may not have choice. Still worth it,
Many, many thanks to you all, My wife and I feel very comfortable about our stay on the Oregon Coast. We have actually extended our stay to 8 days on the coast. It has been awhile since we planned a vacation. We are slow travelers, isn%26#39;t that what it is all about. I think you all should have kudos!!! Again, I appreciate the time you all have took in my wife%26#39;s and my questions.
pencar, I love the idea of SlowTravel..so great that you have taken more days for your trip..I look forward to your trip report ( did anyone tell you it is mandatory? lol)
Pencar
You are kind I am willing to take time to respond to. You ask good questions and give good feedback, and Scarlett is right price you pay is trip report.
Hope I did not confuse with tide info. If you are regular to coast somewhere, probably is simple if not I may have been confusing.
