We will arrive at night in December, so we don%26#39;t need anything fancy. We would like it to be in Florence or just north because the next morning we want to stop at Haceta Lighthouse view point. Then, we are going on up the coast to Manzanita stopping at viewpoints along the way. Any ideas? We need it to be clean and safe. If it were in old town, that would be great but not required. Thanks. Florence lodging
I always stay at the River House Inn in Old Town Florence. It is such a great location and view of the bridge/dunes- if you can splurge for a river front room( sounds like it will be dark when you arrive-you could wake up to the view in the morning :) ). Nothing fancy, but it%26#39;s always been clean and friendly whenever I%26#39;ve traveled there(I go here quite a bit for work). The only thing I could say that would be negative is since it is near the bridge you do hear the traffic going across the grating- but it%26#39;s not that loud to me. They have a website.
Ooh just went to the website and it said that the ';draw bridge is now quieted, thanks ODOT';. So maybe the noise won%26#39;t be too bad. They also have winter rates that look pretty reasonable.

Yes, the noisy grating was replaced summer of 2005, which makes the River House a much more desirable location. There is, however, construction now occuring on the new city park right next door (under the bridge). The Holiday Inn Express, about mid-town on hwy 101, is a good choice as is the The Pier Point Inn, just south of the bridge, which offers clean rooms with the best views of old-town Florence.
Keep in mind, none of these motels are anywhere close to the ocean. The only ocean front facility in Lane County is Driftwood Shores.

Thanks for the prompt responses. Those are great ideas. It is OK that it is not on the ocean. We will have been to Brookings beaches and Bandon as well as Sunset in the Coos Bay area. We are going to the Shore Acres Christmas lights. After leaving Florence, we will be at a beach house at Manzanita. I love this coast. It is gorgeous. Marlyne
You%26#39;ll love Manzanita beach. Was raised there. My family has a house 1.5 blocks off of the beach we stay at when we visit relatives. We LOVE it. Very laid back yet lots to do.

On your way up the coast to Manzanita (cool place) make sure you schedule a a stop at the Cape Foulweather Lookout. Amazing views and there is a gift shop there with some of the most oustanding views on the entire Oregon Coast. Various restaurants and towns will be decorated for the holiday season, very festive.
Have a great trip to the Oregon Coast. :)
Hi Mbruce..
we were in Manzanita a couple of weeks ago, stayed at the Inn@Arch Cape in Arch Cape. ( we picked the Inn because every room has a fireplace).
Since I would take all my tips from dengay and chinookgirl, I cannot help other than to say that you will no doubt love the area and will take a thousand photos!
I suggest bread and ocean for breakfast or lunch in Manzanita ..
Remember that driving up the coast, the logging trucks come barreling up and down all day..so drive carefully!
I hope you come back with a trip report :)
I am glad you mentioned Cape Foulweather. We stopped somewhere, I thought it was by Haceta, but Foulweather may be the place. Does the gift shop have some authentic glass balls? Yes, I will come back with a travel report. We don%26#39;t go until the 3rd week of December. Marlyne
