Has anyone ever stayed there? My daughter adores lighthouses, but there have been so many good reviews of the adobe and the overleaf that I am torn.
Anything terribly creepy about the ghost there?
Thanks in advance!
Heceta Head Lighthouse B and B - Yachats
I manage the lighthouse at Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint (state parks). The keeper%26#39;s house, where the B%26amp;B is located, is actually owned by the Forest Service and operated by a private business. The interior of the house has been pretty well maintained. They have 6 rooms ( I think), each with it%26#39;s own theme. Michelle is a great chef and puts on a really nice spread. While I%26#39;ve never stayed there, I have eaten many of her preparations and they are fantastic.. The views from the keeper%26#39;s house and the lighthouse are very nice. As for Rue, the ghost, well I%26#39;ll leave that one alone ;-0
A comparison between the Adobe, the Overleaf and the B%26amp;B would be difficult. The Adobe has a nice restaurant, but not the quailty of the B%26amp;B. The Adobe and the Overleaf sit right on the ocean, maybe 20 feet from the waves while the B%26amp;B is on a cliff 100%26#39; above the ocean.
Keeping in mind I am not a B%26amp;B person, I would choose the Overleaf. While it will cost more than the others, the new wing especially, is ultra nice. My oldest son was the tile contractor on the remodel so I%26#39;ve had ample opportunites to view the lobby and new wing and believe me, nothing was spared. From Yachats, it is only a 20 minute drive to the lighthouse with lots to see and do in between.
Hope this helps.

Heceta Head Lighthouse B and B - Yachats
GD2004, I had never heard about this until reading your post. Now I want to go there too :)
Tell me about the ghost! I don%26#39;t usually find anything creepy about ghosts :) There are enough people around who are creepier lol.
Dennis- now I understand how you know so much! I am sooo impressed :O)
Thanks Dennis for such GOOD ADVICE.
I am leaning to Overleaf, but my daughter still really wants Heceta Head.
It is honestly the ghost that makes me leery -- have you seen her? is she supposed to be benign or does she fill you with horror and woe? I don%26#39;t want to end up posessed or something (I have a tendancy to believe in such things as I write, among other genres, paranormal stuff for a living). We stayed in a haunted hotel in Jamestown, CA and didn%26#39;t see a ghost and had a wonderful time but we werent actually in that ghost%26#39;s ROOM...which is what they have available at Heceta.
Scarlett, the place looks just stunning and we%26#39;re staying in a mix of B and B type places and hotels over the course of a 15 week trip and this looked like a high light for my daughter especially - but...
yeah, really it%26#39;s the ghost! (so please tell me if you know anything that will make me too creeped out!)
Thanks
Genie
LOL Genie, I am going to do a bunch of research and let you know what I think.
Personally, I think the idea of a ghost is fun but the idea of actually staying with one might keep me awake, in a corner, with all the lights on and some garlic in my hand lol...
GD2004 and Scarlett01,
Here is the link to the Keeper%26#39;s House website: http://www.hecetalighthouse.com/
You can get more factual information about the lighthouse at:

Scarlett, as for me knowing so much.....well, I know what I know. That%26#39;s it. It%26#39;s open to interpretation whether or not it%26#39;s alot. LOL

First, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the job you do at Haceta, Dennis. Anytime we%26#39;ve been there, the lighthouse and area has always been clean and appeared well maintained, and the volunteers knowledgeable and friendly. So thanks.
And it was from one of those volunteers last year that we heard sightings of the ghost in the keepers%26#39; house are rare occurrences, and she%26#39;s never been known to threaten anyone. So, I guess that means she%26#39;s benign, GD2004.
Lastly, I%26#39;ll second the recommendation for the Overleaf. We stayed there late last summer during the remodel. It was nice then, and I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s nicer now. Dennis isn%26#39;t kidding about it being close to the surf either. We were in a ground floor room, and there were times during the night when I would have sworn the waves were right outside the patio door.
We just stayed at the Overleaf last month and visited the lighhouse. We had a stunning view at the Overleaf and the service was great. I wanted to stay at the lighthouse B%26amp;B but it was a bit pricey for our get-away weekend. The lighthouse tour is very interesting and the keeper%26#39;s house in very nice shape. I%26#39;d stay there in a heartbeat - ghost or no ghost!
Thank you all so much, especially for the ghostly reassurances. The overleaf sounds so beautiful, but my daughter votes lighthouse, and that looks lovely too so to Heceta Head we are going.
Will keep you all posted!

Genie,
When are you coming to the area??

The 23rd of August...we can%26#39;t wait, it looks so gorgeous here - I just wish I had MORE TIME for this whole trip. Freudian slip at one point I wrote we were on a 15 week trip, don%26#39;t I wish. 15 days. Before Yachats we%26#39;ll be in Cannon Beach and after, in Requa, CA.
