Tennis anyone? Horseback riding?

My daughter is interested in tennis lessons and riding, and I am not particuarly interested in a toney equestrian club atmosphere.....any ideas? She is considering trying out for the HS tennis team but has never played so I would like to get her into some lessons this summer.

Tennis anyone? Horseback riding?

Hey Mtngrl, isn%26#39;t your daughter taking tennis lessons at Oregon Episcopal School this week? The only other thing that comes to mind is Tualatin Hills Parks %26amp; Rec., Chicogirl.

My daughter starts as a freshman at Tigard H.S. this fall. She%26#39;s been on a tennis court a few times, likes the game some, but doesn%26#39;t seem to be naturally gifted to play the sport well. Still, I would bet that both she and your daughter could make the team. My sense is that competition isn%26#39;t very stiff. Course, it%26#39;s not much fun being blown off the court in every match......

Sorry, I can%26#39;t help with the horseback riding. Still psychologically damaged from being thrown from one as a 12 year old, LOL.

LOL mistletoe:)

Yes, DD is at OES this week for a tennis camp and is LOVING it!!! There are still a few weeks of the camp left, so call NOW to see if there might be any spots left. The phone number for the guy that runs it is (503) 226-4369 and his name is Mr. Lenker (TA won%26#39;t let me say his first name as they are telling me it contains profanities, lol!). That might be his number at the Raquet Club, so if you do not get him, then call OES directly.

Our DD was on the tennis team last year without much experience. You will find that many schools around here really focus on their varisty and their JV is sort of left to dangle. I will say that her coach was not in that mentality, so we were really pleased. But you will see some fierce competition at the Varisty level.

For lessons...Tualatin Hills Park and Rec, over by the Nike campus has them as does the Lake Oswego Tennis Center. You can do group or private.

DD is starting private lessons with two instructors. One in our town, but she is booked solid. The other is in McMinnville. LO and the Tualatin Hills is closer for you though.

Another place to get some info would be in Beaverton, at Players which is a tennis store.

Let me know if I can help anymore.

BTW, I don%26#39;t know firsthand, but there are a ton of riding places down here in Sherwood as well as Wilsonville.

Mistletoe we shall have to give our daughters a secret TA hand signal so they can find each other. (Mine will start as a sophmore at Tigard and does not know a soul yet) Does she have a Myspace?

Thank you both or maybe there were three posting, for the help with the Tennis. The options are much better than I managed to google up. I will call Mr. (Richard maybe?).

Chicogirl--I can just see your DD and mistletoe%26#39;s doing some secret handshake, then probably both laughing about their parents meeting on the internet, lol! Yes, Richard...but the shortened version of that:) Again today after camp, DD who is normally very reserved and not real talkative was yammering on and on about how much she is learning and how much she loves it. Glad to know that it is worth the $$!

LOL, Chicogirl. I like the idea of a secret TA hand signal. Any suggestions? I know my daughter has at least one MySpace pages (or whatever you call them), but when I just asked her about it, I got the usual vague non-response. I try and get some more, then post back.

Sounds like tennis is much more competitive where Mtngrl%26#39;s daughter is going to school. I think that at Tigard, they might even have trouble finding enough to make a full team. Golf and softball, on the other hand, are very popular, and very competitive.

mistletoe--I have the password to our DD%26#39;s myspace page:D So far, so good...but I think she has forgotten that we have access, lol! And yes...ALL sports down here are fiercely competative...that small town thing, you know;) I have read a lot about the golf and softball for Tigard though!

The deal I made with my daughter is that I have access to Myspace or else she doesn%26#39;t have it! I actually made a page for our dog and the dog was added as a ';friend'; so I could view her stuff - the downside is that my college age daughters thought the dogs page was cute, added the dog as a friend, and I learned more about their lives than I wanted to know....way more....

I know the sophmore class at Tigard has a ';group'; called the ';class of 2009'; and my daughter is a member there and met a girl that way - they have not turned out to be friends but she did have a person to ask those early questions of which was fun.

Hello, I came across your posting on the Tigard forum regarding Horseback Riding Lessons and Tennis, unfortunately we cannot help you regarding the tennis but we might be able to help with the riding lessons. My name is Nick Donohue, my fiance and myself just recently moved here from Arizona and are currently building up a training and lesson program in Hillsboro. My fiance, Jessie grew up here and was excited to return. Anyways, we are far from toney as I am an Arizona Cowboy and Jessie a Cowgirl. We teach Natural Horsemanship with a focus on safety and fun! If this is something that might interest you, please visit our website at www.nickdonohuehorsemanship.com or e-mail us at info@nickdonohuehorsemanship.com.

Just a funny sidenote I have a cousin with the exact same name as me who is apparantly a really good Tennis play, if you google Nick Donohue, you come up with both Tennis and Horses....

Thanks
