Portland to Bend

We are renting a car in Portland at 0800 next Saturday and have to turn it in by 1200 the same day in Bend. What is the best route to take? Can we make the drive in 4 hours? Thank you in advance!

US-26 over Mt. Hood to Highway 97 then South is the fastest from downtown and regions North. If you%26#39;re south of Portland in Tigard or something, you may be a little faster going Highway 22 over Santiam Pass to US-20.

I%26#39;ve always found US-26 to be faster more consistently because there are more passing lanes - on 22 there is more traffic getting out of Salem/Stayton, and less places to pass, plus everyone seems to be hauling a boat going to Detroit Lake and going really slow.

In the winter, it%26#39;s another story - since road conditions dictate, but this time of year, I%26#39;d go US-26 for sure.

Yes, you can make the drive in that amount of time - normally takes us 3 to 3.5 hours.

I concur with J%26amp;S - unless you are picking the car up much further South then over Mt Hood is your best bet. Even then, you won%26#39;t have much time for sightseeing over the pass. Hope you have a good trip.
