Southpark Seafood Grill or Higgins or?

We%26#39;ll be in downtown Portland this weekend and are looking for a good place downtown to have seafood. Kind of a celebration so it can be up there in price.

Southpark Seafood Grill or Higgins or?

I read on another board earlier today that Higgins was recently ranked as the 28th best restaurant in the country by Gourmet magazine. I%26#39;d say that swings your choice heavily in their favor. But as one who lives and regularly dines out around here, I%26#39;d put Carlyle, Fenouil, and Paley%26#39;s Place ahead of Higgins for a celebratory meal.

Southpark Seafood Grill or Higgins or?

As usual, I agree with mistletoe..Fenouil would be at the top of my list. We have been there several times, celebratory dinner, dinners, lunches..never a bad meal , always good service and the space is just so pretty!

Then after that I would say Higgins or Paleys Place...

We were not thrilled at all, in fact, the server took my meal off the check at SouthPark last time we were there..so I am not recommending them at this time :)

Any of the good places in town have excellent seafood, you have a lot of good places to choose from :)

I had an excellent Salmon special at Higgins, our meal at the The Heathman was also very good in June. I had the Baked Black Cod that was excellent.

Paley%26#39;s Place makes a great Mussells appetizer that you may enjoy. Carlyle does a nice Sea Scallop entree I had for lunch, but right now my favorite PDX restaurant would be Fenouil, very romantic place. I have a review with photos of most of these places under the Portland Restaurant section. Enjoy! :)

I agree with my friends on choices but would also add Giorgio%26#39;s as an option. Their chef serves some incredible seafood.

Yes, how could we forget, Giorgios is wonderful and I believe mistletoe had dinner there recently..

syrahgirl, how many years ago was it that you had a meal at Higgins ? I forget.

Paleys Place makes every dish well, Carlyle does too, you should try it for dinner next time you visit Oregon, lunch really does not do it justice.

The same with Fenouil, although you had lunch there months ago, dinner is when the restaurant shines.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions! Fenouil was very much as represented. Next time, we%26#39;ll give Georgio%26#39;s a try. The terrific weather we were lucky to have this weekend was a real bonus. We enjoyed the farmers market and then went to the Saturday market. Loved watching all the people and the kids playing in the water at Jamison Square. Portland is such a great town - my grandmother (Portland native born in the 1880s) would have been very proud!

Hi, thanks for posting back about the weekend!

We were at Jamison Square yesterday :) with the other gazillion dogs and their people lol.

It is so charming , isn%26#39;t it? :)

I hope you loved Fenouil, Giorgios is a good next choice :O) and then ? I will be happy to do research for you .. lol..

Glad you enjoyed Fenouil, it is an excellent addition to the PDX dining scene. :)

syrahgirl, I think you might have to be in Portland more often than a day trip, to really know about the ';Portland dining scene';...

But it is nice that as an out of town visitor, you have such interest in our ';dining scene';...Hurry back and try some new places and be sure to post about them.

Why do you guys always give Syrahgirl a hard time just because she doesn%26#39;t live in town? Are only full-time residents of Portland allowed to participate in the forum?

I think people can have very legitimate likes and dislikes about a place even though they don%26#39;t live there, if they%26#39;ve been there or spent time there, which she clearly has....

Just curious....particularly because it only seems to be Syrahgirl that seems to be singled out...
