Safety

Hello, I%26#39;ll be traveling up to Portland at the end of the month. Can anyone please tell me what areas are the safe ones to walk at night and which ones I should avoid. Late 20%26#39;s female traveling alone. Thanks... I booked a B%26amp;B near Burnside and Morrison.

Safety

Hmmm...... Burnside and Morrison don%26#39;t intersect. What%26#39;s the name or street address of the B%26amp;B?

Safety

what%26#39;s the cross street and is it on the east side or west side? Burnside can be a little dicey the closer you get to the Willamette River. It is safe to walk in the shopping district, Pearl District, NW 23 (I%26#39;m not sure what the area is called). There is a funky neighborhood on Hawthorne around SE 39th (some complain that it%26#39;s getting too yuppy but it is safe).

Other regulars on the forums know Portland a little better (actually a lot better) so hopefully they will give add%26#39;l insight.

Well.... open mouth, insert foot.... Burnside and Morrison do intersect. Looks like somewhere around NW 21st, which is at the edge of one of Portland%26#39;s popular dining and shopping areas (NW 21st and 23rd), so you should be safe heading north from the B%26amp;B.

If you walk down Morrison a few blocks past PGE Park, you can catch MAX, which takes you into downtown, which is also safe. But you should expect to see homeless: kids and adults. You could also catch the streetcar downtown on 10th which takes you into the Pearl District, another hot dining and shopping area. The streetcar actually goes through the Pearl and up to NW 23rd, so you could do a loop if you want.

Thanks for you input I am staying at The deLux Hotel...

You might find a good price at the Northrup Inn which is a safe area in NW close to shopping, restaurants and on the streetcar line. At night I%26#39;m always careful when walking anywhere. Burnside can somtimes be sketchy at night. If you chose to travel by cab remember that in Portland you have to call a cab company most of the time. It%26#39;s not like New York where you just flag one down. Have fun here!

Hotel DeLuxe? That%26#39;s several blocks from where I thought you%26#39;d be staying. Nice place! My wife and I stayed there for a night a couple months ago. And you should feel right at home; the hotel%26#39;s done with a retro 40%26#39;s - 50%26#39;s Hollywood theme.

The area immediately around it is relatively quiet, and may appear a little questionable, but I think you%26#39;ll be fine. MAX tracks run right by the hotel, but you%26#39;ll have to walk a couple blocks to the nearest stop. Walk 5 blocks down Morrison to 10th to catch the streetcar, or another 3 - 4 blocks beyond that, and you%26#39;re in the center of downtown.

Thanks you guys for your help... mamababoo thanks for your help. Can any of you recomend a great restaurant in the vicinity.

I really enjoy Giorgios, Fenouil and the Carlyle for elegant evening dinners. For lunch I love Piazza Italia. I hope your visit is perfect!

I will just agree with mamababoo.

We are neighbors and seem to like the same restaurants :)

Although you can add Everett Street Bistro on NW 12th and Everett, 3 blocks from Burnside..breakfast lunch or dinner, great little place.

Noodles is on NW10th %26amp; Couch and is good for lunch..as is Silk , on Glisan and 10th..

BTW, Hotel DeLuxe is not a B%26amp;B..it is a full service hotel.

Okay.... I%26#39;ll buck the tide a little. Fenouil, Giorgios, and Carlyle are three of Portland%26#39;s best restaurants, but you%26#39;ll see few singles in any of them. What do you all think about Bluehour?
