Portland / Seattle Question

I am torn between spliting my time evenly between Seattle and Portland or allowing a little more time in one or the other. I am only talking a couple of days each. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Portland / Seattle Question

What would you like to do in each city? Both are beautiful but your interests will make a big difference in where you want to be. Portland is laid back, full of indie rock, lots of good beer, close to great wineries and witih wonderful restuarants. Shopping is fun and it%26#39;s a an easy place to walk.

Seattle is more cosmopolitan, larger, excellent food and shopping, but a little more difficult to walk. Good music also abounds.

Both are close to the water and mountains and offer great outdoor activities at a close distance.

Portland / Seattle Question

If you only have 2 days each, might as well do it that way..or 4 days in Portland, because I live here LOL

I%26#39;d split it up evenly. Check out the waterfront and Pike%26#39;s Place Market in Seattle.

I have lived in both (OR currently) and would suggest with that amount of time to pick either Seattle OR Portland. There is so much to do in both areas, and with only a few days for each place you would seriously be short changing yourself.

Agree with Annyka, it would be nice to see both places. Taking a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island is also a nice way to see Seattle from the water. A meal at the Six Seven at the Hotel Edgewater is also very nice, if the weather is nice, dine out on their little patio that sits directly over the water.

Rose Gardens, PIttock Mansion, Chinese Classical Gardens are all worth checking out in Portland. Have a great time! :)

Oh, also in Seattle is the Space Needle, they have a restaurant up there that my son enjoyed. It was a memorable night for their friends when a marriage proposal took place there. :)

Since you agree with Anyka, syrahgirl, that means you agree with me too, how nice ! lol

sricharme, keeping in mind that you have to travel from Seattle to Portland which will take about half a day, you will have even less time..so perhaps you should make one of those lists, all the things you want to see %26amp; do in each city and choose that way? Otherwise, you will hardly know what you saw and where you saw it in such a little amount of time..

Good luck !

I have a few comments...where do I start? LOL!

Ok...first of all, Space Needle. Great attraction. Awful place to have a meal. Syrahgirl has not been there. I have, big mistake. We lived up in the Seattle area for quite a while, and DH is from there so are very familiar with it. That being said, even promgoers did not go to the Space Needle for their dinner. It is a tourist trap, period.

Pike Place Market (not Pike%26#39;s Market...that is a way to get any local to cringe and correct you)...another fun place to go.

Syrahgirl--Your one trip to Seattle was what, 4-5 years ago. Hopefully you can make it back soon to check out how it is now.

BTW, it is a good 3 hours between Portland and Seattle, assumming you do NOT hit any traffic in Seattle. That said, traffic in Portland is a piece of cake, but Seattles can be a nightmare. So if you do split your time, be sure to factor that in and make it a point to be in Seattle during the off hours.

How many times do we have to hear about that marriage proposal and what does it have to do with helping travelers?.You never even ate there
