Oregon Coast - Need help!

Hi,

My boyfriend, his parents and I are trying to plan a trip from Salt Lake City to the Oregon Coast. My boyfriend and I have been to Hood River and love it, so we are wanting to take his parents. Here is what we are thinking. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Day 1: Leave Salt Lake and sleep in La Grande or Pendleton

Day 2: Leave LaGrande/Pendleton and stay in Hood River

Day 3: Leave Hood River early and go to Mt. St. Helens for the day. Leave around 4:00, drive and stay in Sea Side.

Day 4: Leave Sea Side and stay in New Port

Day 5:???? Maybe Lincoln City

Day 6: Drive back to Hood River and go through Portland

Day 7: Leave Hood River and stay in Boise

Day 8: Leave early to get back to Salt Lake

What do you think? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Not real sure what you are asking.

Pendleton to Hood River very easy day.

Hood River to mt St Helens to Seaside almost impossible day, unless you plan to fly through Gorge on I-84.

I would not move the 25 miles fom Newport to Lincoln City for overnight.

phirl-

i can%26#39;t reply to your post so hopefully you will read this. you answered exactly what i was asking.

we are planning on leaving hood river early in the morning on 84 to mount st. helens, spending the afternoon and leaving early evening to sea side. we will get to sea side late, but have the next day to explore. is that not a good idea?

thanks,

lindsay

I would add that Salt Lake to LaGrande is a bit of a short day. I%26#39;d do Pendelton the first night then head up on the Old Columbia Gorge Hwy and circle back to Hood River for the night.

I gather you do not plan to see the Gorge on day 3. and just go through on I-84 to I 205 and north to Mt St Helens. That is still a long day. going on to Seaside, but doable if you start early.

Do you plan to see the Gorge on day 6?

I gather your objective is to spend time in Hood River cause you could be there well before noon from Pendleton

It%26#39;s probably easier and less expensive to stay in Seaside, but I think you%26#39;d like Cannon Beach better. Depending on when you%26#39;re doing this and what kind of accommodations you%26#39;re looking for, minimum stay requirements could be an issue in both towns.

I agree with phirl; stay put in the Newport area for both of the other two nights. Or, if you don%26#39;t have specific reasons to see Newport, I might even suggest spending all three nights in the same place on the northern coast. You don%26#39;t have much relax and experience time built into this itinerary.

Any reason not to spend the night in Portland on the return trip? It%26#39;s a nice city, you know. And Portland to Boise isn%26#39;t that much longer than from Hood River.

Hi and welcome to the forums! Where are you staying in Seaside? We have been here all summer, loving the coastal living. Cannon Beach is just a short and scenic 10 minute drive from us here.

Don%26#39;t miss Ecola State Park and Indian Beach while in the CB area. You also may want to venture into Astoria, about a 20 minute drive from Seaside. Lots of history there and cool shops, wine tasting, a Riverfront trolley and lots more.

www.oldoregon.com for more on Astoria. Any further questions, feel free to ask! :)

We are going to spend time in Hood River on Thursday evening and Friday morning.

We aren%26#39;t spending time in Portland because we have all been there, so we are just going to spend the early afternoon.

So, would you suggest staying in Sea Side the whole time while we%26#39;re on the coast instead of driving down to Lincoln for the night?

Thank you all so much for your help!

Lindsay

Seaside for three days Not what I would do. I prefer Newport and central oreg coast. I just suggested you not move from Newport to Lincoln City.

You can spend three days almost anywhere on coast, question is do you want to see more of coast. If you have not been here before suggest you see more of our coast.

I agree with phirl, who certainly knows much much more about the Coast of Oregon than I or some other posters on here.. Seaside is nice but there is so much more to the Coast !

Actually, I made a mistake...mistletoe and dengay and phirl all know much much more than I do about the Coast LOL...
