What to Wear

We are staying in Cannon Beach, 8/25 for 4 nights. We drove through last year on a day trip and decided to come back for a few days. The problem. We have never been to a beach area with cool weather. What do you wear during the day or night to walk on the beach. How about when we take drives south along the coast. This may sound silly but here in Big D it has been over 100 for way too many days, so it%26#39;s always shorts and a T as soon as work clothes come off. Thanks

What to Wear

Take sweatshirts or cotton sweaters. Layer your tees and shorts with sweaters or wear long pants .

It is never hot hot at the Coast, it might be warm but the water is always cold and there is usually a good wind ..

Pretend it is Fall :)

Have a good time!!

What to Wear

Hooded windbreaker jacket (unlined). We spend a week there each year (former resident) and pack for the worst, and expect the best weather. August should be the best. DO walk the beach even if it%26#39;s not as warm as August should be --it is so invigorating... Also, pack extra sneakers (especially take old ones that you don%26#39;t mind getting wet and sandy).

Hi Macciatto! We spent most of June and July on the coast in Seaside. I actually had many, many nice beach days and got quite a nice tan! Shorts in the day and a light jacket in the evenings. We sat on the beach for almost 3 hours on the 4th watching fireworks, I was fine in short and a sweatshirt. Flip flops are nice for beach walking, I think I now own a pair in every color. You can purchase beachwear at Ter Har%26#39;s there in CB, they have a great selection of shoes, beach apparal, hats, etc. Have fun, any furhter questions on the coast, feel free to ask! :)

You definitely won%26#39;t be seeing any 100 degree days at the coast here:)

To walk on the beach, most people wear sneakers. If you are playing, such as walking from a chair to the water, then people usually wear flipflops or just go barefoot.

Be sure to bring your sunglasses. They help block if it gets windy and the sand is blowing.

Unless we are in a heat wave, by evening shorts are usually not ideal. Capris are nice for that, unless it is cold then long pants.

I%26#39;ve been to Cannon Beach in June, July, August, and the middle of September. I can%26#39;t imagine getting a tan! I always bring a wool sweater and my windbreaker. The wind is cold! My husband seems to do fine in shorts and a long sleeved t-shirt, though.

It%26#39;s a beautiful beach! I hope you have fun!

kureiff--Glad to see you here! How is the knitting coming along? There is a great yarn store in CB:)

Oh dear, the knitting . . . well, it hasn%26#39;t been coming along at all. I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ll be back at it this fall! LOL. Next time we%26#39;re in Cannon Beach, I%26#39;ll check out the knitting store! : )

Glad to hear that others have been to Cannon Beach and had to wear sweaters, and not bathing suits.

I think a tan might be difficult to get over all the goose bumps LOL

flip flops, the foot wear of choice for thousands of teen girls, can just let in more cold water and air.

figure sneakers...

Mtngrl lives here in Oregon, I think her advice is reliable..as is linmacs, sometimes a visitor shows up for a week and that will be when we have the freak 100 degree days and even the beach will be warm. But overall, I have not been to Cannon Beach yet that I was not wearing a light sweater .. Have fun!

Thanks so much, Getting this help makes for a great trip. We%26#39;re so ready for that first walk on the beach it was 104 today and suffocating. On the drive back to Portland I was thinking about going South along the coast then up and over to Portland. How far south should we expect to go and still be in Portland by 3PM. We will do a day trip prior to that day to Newport so we expect to be able fly through without stopping until after we pass Newport. Any ideas and can%26#39;t misses we would appreciate. Thanks again.

Hi again, we were in Newport last month. We picked up one of my daughter%26#39;s friends in LIncoln City and took them to the aquarium. I would not miss a viist to the aquarium. We also enjoyed lunch at the Salishan Lodge %26amp; Spa, gorgeous resort. The fish tacos were wonderful.

Lincoln City is fun, they have the Tager Outelts there if you like to shop. We finished our day with a very nice dinner at the Blackfish Cafe. I have a review with photos under the Lincoln City Restaurant Review section.

Another fun stop for us was the Cape Foulweather Lookout %26amp; Gift shop. Gorgeous views and a really fun gift shop to pick up souvenirs with just breathaking views of the scenery on the central coast. I give it the ';Best Gift Shop With A View'; award! Any further questions on the coast, feel free to ask! :)
