Sundowner Motel?

How%26#39;s the Sundowner Motel in Seaside? The website says it is 1/2 block to the Prom/beach area. I want something clean, and relatively inexpensive within walking distance to the beach. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Sundowner Motel?

I%26#39;m surprised the person who considers herself the forum%26#39;s Seaside expert hasn%26#39;t jumped all over this. The only help I can be is to point you to the reviews on this site, and to confirm that the location really is within a block of the Promenade fronting the beach. Based on the reviews, it appears you might have to settle for two out of three. ;-)

The Sundowner is also close to the heart of the action in Seaside, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective.

Sundowner Motel?

Mistletoe correctly hinted at something which bears elaboration. If you are within three blocks of the main Seaside drag, in summer, you will find a gazillion teenagers and college kids and ';vibrations'; as the crowds, at times, swirl around you. And the traffic flow, though controlled, still consists of some noise. So, if you are not into this and want a good nights rest, I suggest three blocks from the main drag. Many hotels are within walking distance of the beach. Two more interesting beaches are just a few miles south, Cannon Beach and Ecola State Park, just north of Cannon Beach. But you probably know that. You could get inexpensive motel in Seaside, but enjoy Cannon Beach

Thanks for the replies, guys. I read the reviews of the Sundowner before posting my question, and they are mostly positive, with one review being negative. Mistletoe, which 2 out of 3 things did you mean?

I have only been to Seaside once, and that was probably 5 or 6 years ago and wasn%26#39;t in the summer. I hadn%26#39;t thought about the noise, crowds, etc. of being close to the center of things, thanks for pointing that out. Probably wouldn%26#39;t bother us, we%26#39;re not early birds, but it%26#39;s something to consider.

Hi ranchgal,

You listed your criteria as clean, relatively inexpensive, and walking distance to the beach. You%26#39;ll get at least two of those with the Sundowner, maybe three.

Why did you choose Seaside? As voyaging says, it%26#39;s known best locally as the beach town of choice for teens, so if you%26#39;re into arcades, carnival rides, and corn dogs, it%26#39;s a fun place to be. But if you%26#39;re looking for a more laid back beach experience, there are much better places to go. Cannon Beach is one.

Hi there! We spent the majority of the summer in Seaside. I have not heard of this place at all nor do I remember ever seeing it or hearing of it before, sorry!

I can recommend to you Tides by the Sea which is down by Ave U. It is right on the beach in what I consider the most scenic part of the Seaside beach. We stayed at the Tides for 4 nights in June when our beach cottage was rented out. It was perfect for us, right at the quiet end of the prom, surfing was at our doorstep, walking distance to Corpeny%26#39;s for lunch and breakfast.

We had the upstairs corner room that was 2 bedroom, fully stocked kitchen, fireplace, pool which was great for lap swimming, heated very nicely. We got that room for $90/night. We made some great memories there, I still need to get a review with photos posted here, I took lots of pictures I%26#39;ll get around to posting sometime in the near future when I get more time.

www.seasideor.com is a nice website for you. Only 10 minutes from Cannon Beach and 20 minutes from Astoria. When are you coming to Seaside? Have fun and happy travel planning! :)

Actually, we%26#39;re going to be in Seaside in one week, so this is a very last-minute spur-of-the-moment trip! I went ahead and booked the Ebb Tide and felt lucky to get a room at such short notice. The reviews of the Ebb Tide on this site and a few others I checked seem favorable, and we got an oceanview room for $135 ~ can%26#39;t beat that. Syrah, I did check out the Tides, but it was quite a bit more expensive. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

This is an end-of-summer trip with our 20-year old son who will soon be heading back to college. This will probably be his last summer coming home, so this trip is kind of for him. DH and I are just big kids, though, we enjoy the carnival atmosphere as well. We live in a very isolated area in southeastern Oregon, on a ranch, so when we vacation we%26#39;re not looking for quiet and solitude ~ we get that at home. We like lots of activity and love touristy stuff that other people think is cheesy. :)

Thanks for your help!

You%26#39;re very welcome and please report back on how it goes! :)
