Mid-trip Report

I thought I%26#39;d post a quick mid-trip report to thank all those who helped so much with my planning.

We%26#39;re mid-way on our trip and are in Gold Beach. Things are going just as planned so far and we%26#39;re enjoying everything so much. Notable highlights: The coast between Brookings and Gold Beach is spectacular! The Surf n Sand motel in Gold Beach has wide variation in room quality, with the view rooms (we had 221) being very large, well decorated and with an incredible view. We learned yesterday that they are converting to condos and beginning in September, the view rooms will no longer be available. Too bad because they%26#39;re really beautiful and worth the price. Our restaurant meals have been confined to Port-O-Call. Spinners was out of our price range and the locals we talked to yesterday turned up their noses at Strada. So we have had one dinner and one lunch in town, both at Port-O-Call. Good burgers, good halibut, but nothing spectacular. Jerry%26#39;s Rogue River Jet Boats were the highlight of the trip so far ! We had a great pilot - Kevin - who did lots of spinners, got us wet, and pointed out osprey, deer, otters, etc. In TA, no one had mentioned that you have to choose which restaurant you want to stop at during the dinner break on the afternoon 80 mile boat trip. We chose Lucas Lodge and were delighted with the choice! Dinner there is served family style and it%26#39;s fried chicken, vegetables, mashed potatos, biscuits, and ice cream with homemade blackberry sauce. Oh My. It was wonderful. I%26#39;ll post again when we get home. We%26#39;re off to Yachats!

Thanks again to all of you for making this trip successful. Couldn%26#39;t have done it without your help!

Mid-trip Report

Sounds great, thanks for reporting back with us! :)

So, you%26#39;re back in good graces with the water gods, UtahRoots? ;-) At least, it doesn%26#39;t sound like you got rained on during the jetboat trip. Those boat drivers are great, aren%26#39;t they? Lucas Lodge was one of the choices we had for lunch on the 80-mile trip last summer. Sounds like we should have chosen there rather than the unmemorable place we ended up, LOL.

Nice to read you%26#39;re enjoying yourselves, and looking forward to the rest of the trip report.

Sounds like a fun trip! Good to hear about the hotel converting the rooms. It is always nice to know ahead of time, instead of finding out the hard way. Hope the rest of your trip is as enjoyable:)

Sounds GREAT!!

Hope you honk as you drive past Honeyman State Park on the way to Yachats. LOL!!!!!

Nice report. Did you visit lost coast in Cal? Glad to hear you like Brookings to Gold Beach coast. Gold beach to Port Orford and Florence to Depoe Bay compare.

Keep us posted

Shhh...I don%26#39;t think the water gods know we%26#39;re here... :-)

It%26#39;s been delightful weather and so wonderful to get out of the Utah heat. Tomorrow, we%26#39;re leaving Yachats and going on toward Newport where we decided to stay one night before going on a fishing charter there. My oldest son is in the full throws of missing his girlfriend and feeling macho so we signed him up for crabbing on the fishing charter. We%26#39;ll see if he can pull up a 100 lb. pot without help...I%26#39;ll be looking for recipes for sea bass. Is that the same as counting your chickens before they hatch? LOL

We spent one night at the Overleaf, having arrived earlier in Yachats than we expected. Tonight at The Adobe, so I%26#39;ll be in good position to compare the two when I get a little time. Right now, too much fun watching whales out of our window... Talk to y%26#39;all later.

Watching whales out the window!! Go ahead, rub it in LOL

It all sounds so great!!

Just gotta tell you that my son managed the crab pot just fine, we kept 18 Dungeness crabs. And the fishing was good too. Came home with 22 sea bass and 2 ling cod. More on the official trip report coming soon.

Sounds wonderful, we are still enjoying our Wild Salmon that my daughter and husband caught on their fishing trip in Astoria last month! :)
