Fresh Seafood to purchase: Central/North Coast

Howdy all...

We are headed out for a few days at the coast - our first real trip to learn our way around our new home. We will be staying near Tillamook (Cape Lookout) and venturing out from there.

Does anyone have a fish market to recommend? We will go to Newport/Lincoln City, etc. and could go back north to the Cannon Beach area. Some fresh fish or razors (right time of year???) for dinner at the camp site would be so fine!

Of course I left this question til the last minute!

Den- thanks for the help with camping!

Fresh Seafood to purchase: Central/North Coast

In Cannon Beach is the Ecola Seafood Market. It is a seafood market as well as a casual restaurant. Lots of stuff there! Have a great time:) Be sure to go over to the Cannon Beach Bakery (by the ice cream parlor and JP%26#39;s) and get a loaf of Haystack bread also.

I KNEW you were going to say that!

Hi! have fun and I second Mtngrls recommendation. We love Ecola Seafood!

OK ladies, thank you....now do they have a harbor there and catch it fresh??? Huh? Huh?

Are there no fish markets in Lincoln City?

Hey, while you are here...DH is looking at the map and considering hwy 20 over to the coast - it looks very curvy to me...what do you suggest?

Hi

I don%26#39;t know about 20. I go the way Mtngrl told me to go, on 26 LOL

Curvy sounds interesting though :)

HWY 20 is nice too. We used to go that way when I was in Corvallis attending OSU, as we always hit the Newport/Lincoln City area. We went to some fish market there, but it has been years and I have no idea of the name or anything. Hopefully Dennis will post and have an answer for you.

I am SO envious of you camping! DH and DS are out climbing Mt. Adams this weekend. I wanted to go backpacking, but DD%26#39;s plans cut into that. So I hope you think of me when you are out there enjoying it;)

Hwy. 20 is much less curvy than it used to be. They have been straightening it out for the last several years. I haven%26#39;t been to Newport in a couple of years; the last time that I drove that way, the eastern half (or more) between Corvallis and Newport had been straightened out quite a bit, and I believe that they have been working on the western portion for a while now.

Thank you sooo much. He is getting all sorts of weird ideas - I was taking us down to 18 ....but 20 sounds like fun. Outlets on the way home for sure ...

Mtngrl - we almost made it to 7 pm at Countryside tonight. We haven%26#39;t been able to camp for 2-3 years and then we moved..so our camping gear was lost and a mess and it took us all day to get sort of organized. Maybe next week and maybe we can ';accidentally'; bump into each other there!

I will post if I find any new spots y%26#39;all should know about!

I am already worrying about our cats and the new cat sitter we hired! wow, being a ';mom'; never ends.

OH gosh we have to talk about knitting classes too...I am a closet knitter (that means my knitting stays in the closet on the shelf!)

Oh chicogirl!!! Where do I start, lol! Knitting...turns out I was taking a class at the same place as mistletoes wife. Such a small world! My friend who got me started knitting is also the one who connected us with Countryside:) My DH%26#39;s MBA is really getting in the way of backpacking. Can%26#39;t wait for it to be over!!! HWY 18 is good too. Very curvy though. I can still vividly remember a trip back to Salem as a child. Late at night, dark, my mom having a hard time with the curves and my dad who was trying to sleep couldn%26#39;t because of her driving. We all still laugh about that, and it was years ago! It is fine during the day though...just watch the curves.
