So I need your advice. It%26#39;s my friends 35th in November and I told her we were going to get a night away from the kids, dogs and hubbies and that we would find some great shopping, maybe a spa treatment and some really good food!
I live in Southern Oregon and thought a trip to Lincoln City on the coast would be nice but can%26#39;t seem to find a nice spa hotel there and have no idea about food!
Then I thought about Woodburn, just south of Portland....never been there either, but also having a hard time finding a fun relaxing time for some burnt out moms!!
I know everyone will say Bend, but I don%26#39;t want to risk the drive in snow or pay the extras just because it is Bend!!
Any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks!
Girl's Weekend Getaway....Outlet Shopping Oregon!
For me (being from Salem), I would take the Woodburn outlets over the Lincoln City ones every single time. I like the stores much, much better. (Calvin Klien, Tommy, Polo, Gap, Banana Republic ~ to name a few).
There are a few spa hotels within the Portland area (I have heard of Avalon, but never been there myself). However, you could consider just checking into a a nicer hotel and then visiting a Day Spa. Can%26#39;t help you with Day Spa%26#39;s in Portland, but there are a couple of really good ones in Salem ~ Russell%26#39;s being one. (If you get a massage there, ask for Tracy or Katie!!!)
Conversely, there is a hotel in Lincoln City that has a spa - Salishan. I have never used it for the spa, but have stayed there and golfed before. It%26#39;s nice.
Hope this helps!
Girl's Weekend Getaway....Outlet Shopping Oregon!
The Salishan is actually in Gleneden Beach. We had a very nice lunch there this past summer and took a tour of the spa, it is amazing and so pretty.
The Woodburn Outlets are very nice, they have lots of cool shops. We stopped at the Tanger Outlets (Lincoln City) also this past summer and shopped for awhile. In Lincoln City, check out the Blackfish Cafe for a nice dinner. It%26#39;s pretty casual and the food is really good. Hope this helps and have a great trip! :)
The outlets in Woodburn are newer and nicer than the ones in Lincoln City, but I%26#39;ve found the prices in Lincoln City to be better.
Bend isn%26#39;t worth the trip for outet stores - they%26#39;re quite small.
I would concur with the suggestion about the Salishan Lodge.
I live in Southern Oregon and think the Portland Getaway would be the perfect place! I have done several girl%26#39;s getaways there with friends and my teen daughter. It is not far from the Woodburn outlets (I think maybe 30 minutes at most), and I agree the Woodburn outlets are better than the ones in Lincoln City.
I would recommend staying in Portland, driving to the Woodburn outlets for a day, but that would still give you tiime to explore Porltand, particularly The Pearl and NW 23rd another day.
For a hotel I would recommend Hotel Vintage Plaza, 5th Avenue Suites or the Downtown Marriott on Broadway. All nice hotels and well located. Look on www.pova.org for their ';Big Deal'; hotel packages. I am a big shopper, but not much of a spa girl, but I do believe Dosha is one of the best in Portland. It is not in a hotel but near 23rd in NW Portland. The 5th AVenue Suites does have an Aveda salon which I think does spa stuff as well.
If you are looking for good food, Portland definitely has some excellent options, and will find a lot of recommendations on this board.
The Aveda Salon next door to the 5th Avenue Suites is now Dosha also.
Dosha on NW 23rd is very nice for spa treatments etc.
www.pova.com is an excellent recommendation, not just for ';specials'; but for tons of information about events etc in town.
I like the idea of staying in Portland in a nice hotel and just going to the outlets for a day. Shopping, IMO, is fun at an outlet mall for a while but gets old fast, having the Pearl and NW to shop in will be much more fun.
The 5th Ave Suites has double bed suites, and I believe our Local Expert for Portland, Mtgrl, did just this not too long ago..some friends met her here and they all stayed at the 5th Avenue Suites..
Sounds fun, I live just blocks from the hotel and I would like to spend the weekend there too LOL
It%26#39;s not noted here, and correct me if I%26#39;m wrong, but the Woodburn FACTORY STORES isn%26#39;t exactly an ';outlet mall';. It%26#39;s just a bunch of stores...just like a mall. They%26#39;re not even cheap, I can get better prices on the stuff that they sell there in Portland, but then again, it%26#39;s all in one place and it%26#39;s a really nice mall. The Factory Store part means there%26#39;s actually a ';Timberland'; store instead of just buying the Timberland gear at G.I.Joes...and again, it%26#39;s not like they sell it at outlet rates.
As for the Lincoln City Outlet, it is older and not as nice but still a good time and heck, you%26#39;re at the beach instead of in Woodburn :) As for lodging at the coast, check out the Surfrider, just south of Lincoln City %26amp; Salishan...it%26#39;s my favorite place in the area (http://www.surfriderresort.com). As for a spa in Lincoln City, check out Rejuvenation (http://www.rejuvenationmassageandspa.com/). My wife liked it when I got her a surprise massage there. I believe that it%26#39;s next to Mo%26#39;s.
If being at the beach makes a difference, it%26#39;s an easy call. Otherwise though, I%26#39;d agree with those recommending Portland, where you%26#39;d have many more options for whatever you%26#39;d want to do or eat. And I%26#39;d put Bridgeport Village on your list of places to shop.
First of all...I have to ask about your screen name...interesting!
Ok...shopping with girlfriends...we all seems to have our ideas. Yes, friends came and we did a girls weekend similar to yours. We stayed at the 5th Avenue Suites and it was perfect. We had connecting rooms on the top floor...beautiful rooms, the separate sitting areas were great for the late night girl talk, or for mixing drinks before we headed out. The hotel was great about a few special requests as well. Even though we live here, we have stayed at the hotel a few times and they have always treated us very well, without any false airs, etc.
Shopping...the Woodburn outlets are good. They are not just stores, as I know at least some are outlets. You can find some very good deals, but like all outlets, it can be hit or miss. There are a lot of stores there and definitely not at cheezy as some places. If you like this kind of shopping, plan for about a half a day down there. One place we like for lunch there is the Chateau Benoit/Anne Amie...they have some inexpensive wines, but also really good paninis.
Bridgeport Village is another great place to shop. It could easily be combined with a trip to Woodburn. Very nice outdoor shopping area wtih several restaurants.
Besides those areas, I would spend the rest of the time in downtown Portland. Dosha is a great spa (I have only been to the one on Glisan up by 23rd), and shopping/restaurants are all right there.
Thank you, thank you for such great advice!! I think we%26#39;re definately going to do Portland. I have to ask; What is Bridgeview or BridgePort?? More great shopping!! We%26#39;re very neglected down here in Southern Oregon, we just got a Kohl%26#39;s a week ago...so you can imagine our need for real shopping!
My screen name? Well let%26#39;s just say that amongst the %26#39;group%26#39; I am known as the truthful one. I%26#39;ll tell you what I%26#39;m thinking if you ask, without bias or hesitation. I think I%26#39;m just a bit too straightforward and tell it as it is!! So this is a perfect place for that!!!
Thank you, will keep you posted on how the weekend unfolds and the great time that we had!
Bridgeport Village is a shopping mall /center 20 minutes South of downtown Portland.
Many good stores of all kinds, and a theatre and some nice restaurants as well as PFChang sort of restaurants.
I will be going with a friend to try out a new place, want a trip report? lol
I live in the Pearl where shopping is outside my door, so I do recommend coming to town with your friends..the shopping is easy and there are too many choices for good restaurants.
