Thanksgiving Day

My husband and I will be traveling to Florence on Thanksgiving Day. Besides the Casino, will any other restaurants be open? What about the grocery stores? Thanks for your help....

Thanksgiving Day

Both Safeway and Fred Meyer are normally open with adjusted hours.

As for restaurants, I%26#39;m not positive, but I%26#39;d bet a pull or two on a $1 slot that more than one of the establisments along Bay Street will be open.

Thanksgiving Day

Your post reminds me of a memorable Thanksgiving on the coast. It rained (nothing new). But it was raining very, very hard. And driving south through Seaside, water collected on the road. Lots of water. Cars were detoured in Seaside unless, like ours, they sat high. Nothing more was said by the highway crews. We continued on, intrepid souls that we are, determined to enjoy a coastal holiday. What%26#39;s a little water and rain on the coast? It rained heavily and, worse, the tide was high and getting higher. What happens when a rising high tide shakes hands with lowland, overflowing rivers? Flooding, of several coastal communities. And so we could proceed no further than Tillamook. So we spent Thanksgiving in a motel room in the north part of the city, ate our Thanksgiving meal at a motel across the street, and watched the water rise on 101. Had to feel compassion for residents, some of whom were surrounded by water and ';waterlocked'; for days. We still wonder why, in Seaside, conditions to the south were not reported. Anyway, forevercascade, you have a great trip, this event is a relatively rare occurence. :)

Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Italy. Turkey is Tarquina and readly available. Check out US embassay in Florence perhaps they can advise you. You will love it here.

Hi bilinacy, since the inquiry was on the Oregon forums, I believe the poster was inquiring about Florence, Oregon, on the Oregon coast. Perhaps their post also appeared in Florence, Italy.

Voyaging--At least it was a memorable Thanksgiving for you. Sorry...couldn%26#39;t resist;) It sounds like a Thanksgiving that my inlaws in Seattle still talk about...big storm, power out, cooking turkey on the grill. I think we are glad we were living away for that one, lol!

I had a similar experience to voyaging%26#39;s on Thanksgiving 1996. Was trying to get to Nehalem from Florence for dinner w/ my parents. bother and sister. It had been raining hard for several days, but we loaded our sons (we only had two at the time) into the cramped back seat of my 1996 Ford extended cab pickup and off we went. Along the way, we saw water gushing from places that it never had b4, but determined, we trudged along. When we got to Cloverdale, it sould have occured to me that we would never make it through Tillamook. The fields were completely filled with FLOWING water, logs and other debris. Sure enough, we get to Tillamook and the hwy is closed.

We called mom and said so sorry, then begain the long drive back home. We made it as far as Newport and my boys (ages 14 and 10) had had enough. I noticed the Sizzler was open so I stopped and this is where we had our Thanksgiving dinner. They actually had a turkey dinner special that day.

Surely a Thanksgiving to remember.

Dengay, Nehalem was awash that year, and we had to detour around it. Quite a sight if uncomfortable for the shops and residents. Mtngirl, there have been power outages in at least 3 Thanksgivings that I recall, here in Seattle area, which left us chasing working ovens among our friends! At least we don%26#39;t have the PDX ice storms which, when I lived there on Humphrey Park area, left us stranded, while folks a hundred feet below our altitude were either just wet or in sun.

Voyaging--We used to live up there....while I love it here, I really miss it. I know this sounds really odd...but I love how it gets stormy for the marathon that weekend. I always have better times in the cold, wind and rain, lol! We will be down here for Thanksgiving this year...first time in ages. We are usually up your direction, even after we moved, lol!
