What to do over Thanksgiving week.

I will be in Portland for a week for Thanksgiving, my second trip. Of course, I want to see it all, but must settle for the best first and save the rest for my next trip out. I will traverse the state as best I can in a car. Please give me some ideas for don%26#39;t miss destinations or one-day treks.

What to do over Thanksgiving week.

For a nice scenic hike try taking the ';Wildwood Trail'; at the Hoyt Arboretum...or the ';Marquem Trail'; through some old growth forest.

Check out Multnomah Falls...hike to the top if you%26#39;ve got the time...paved all the way up (there is a side trial which follows the river on top back into the forest which is very scenic and a ton less crowded)...take the Historic Highway to get there and stop by Latorell Falls and Wei-something Falls (can%26#39;t remember). Drive past Mult. Falls (still on Historic Highway) to Silver Falls and get back on I84 at the Bonneville Dam to head back to Portland.

If you%26#39;re into Disc Golf, we%26#39;ve got some killer courses in the area as well.

Hi

I don%26#39;t know what you did on the last trip, but a day trip to the Coast could be fun, the waterfalls are beautiful and the Gorge and the parks and gardens in town are wonderful.

But the weather was not that good last Thanksgiving for park and garden walking, so I will suggest the Pittock Mansion,

the Art Museum and lots of gallery walking in the Pearl.

On any fine day, you should grab the car and go for an outdoor jaunt.

Here are some ideas:

Hope this helps :)

Agree with white rabbit- go to the Columbia River Gorge for a day trek, if you havent%26#39; been here before. Also the Bonneville Dam grounds are pretty interesting as well(nicely manicured, with sturgeon fish ponds, fish ladder, information center)-if you%26#39;re into history and seeing a fish hatchery.

Of course going to the coast would be interesting as well-storm watching weather will probably be in full force. Perenial favorite towns to visit that are close to Portland are Cannon Beach, Seaside and Astoria. The %26#39;local experts%26#39; can help you with your plans.

I also really like Silver Falls State Park, east of Salem. A great trail to walk and goes behind some amazing falls. If you are really into hiking, you can go on a ~ 8mile hike and see 10 falls. Don%26#39;t know if some would consider it a %26#39;can%26#39;t miss%26#39; but its one of my favorites.

Thanksgiving weekend is one of the two biggest of the year in Oregon%26#39;s wine country, about 45 minutes SW of Portland. Many smaller boutique wineries that normally taste only by appointment, are open to the public that weekend. Big crowds, but it%26#39;s lots of fun.
