What do you think are the best beaches in Oregon and why?
Best Beaches
#1-Short Sands beach in Oswald West State Park, near Manzanita. Without a doubt the most scenic and most protected beach in Oregon.
#2 through #6 (all equal in my book for a variety of reasons)- Hug Point State Park, near Cannon Beach; Sunset Beach at Sunset Bay State Park west of Coos Bay; Baker Beach north of Florence; Big Stump Beach between Yachats and Waldport; Manzanita Beach; Humbug Mountain State Park.

Best Beaches
To Den%26#39;s list I%26#39;d add Indian Beach in Ecola State Park, near Cannon Beach, and the beach on the spit just south of Cascade Head. Indian Beach is scenic, and sheltered, and never crowded because the park limits access to the beach by the number of cars that fit into the parking lot there.
The beach just south of Cascade Head is isolated to the point that you rarely see anyone on it. In fact, other than crossing the Salmon River by boat, I%26#39;m not sure how you get to it.
Den could you list your reasons?
Short Sand Beach is great for surfing and is very pretty, we were there on a Sun. last summer and the place was hecka crowded. Check out my photos under the Cannon Beach attractions forum.
My favorites in no particular order are:
Haystack Rock @ Cannon Beach
Indian Beach @ Ecola State Park, great surfing and very scenic, never overly populated even on the summer weekends
Seaside-Ave U, very scenic with rolling white water waves, a great place to surf and relax. Also a great place to razor clam and easy access from the prom I also love the stretch of beach east of Ave 12, where I spent numerous afternoons lounging, reading, tanning, soaking it all in with gorgeous views of Tillamook Head
Nye Beach in Newport, historic beach on the Central Coast
Lincoln City-great kite flying beach in an upbeat coastal town with great shopping
Fort Stevens StatePark in Warrenton- very windy, but a nice place to fly your kite and view the Wreck of the Peter Iredale.
If I think of more, I%26#39;ll let you know! Have you been to any of the places I have mentioned, if not, I could provide some good websites for you to ones that sound nice to you.
Cheers! :)
Neptune Beach near Cape Perpetua- small beach but giant trees %26amp; mountains all around. Pistol River Beach down south of Gold Beach- long beach with %26#39;sea stacks%26#39;, great walking beach and hardly anyone there.
Waht is the best beach in cleveland?? If you are coming to oregon wuilling to help don%26#39;t like answering random questions.
best fresh water lake in Ohio, are ther any??
Lisalala,
My reasons vary. I manage the ocean shores between Waldport and Coos Bay, and have previously managed the ocean shores from Cannon Beach to Tillamook Bay, so I have had plenty of opportunities to visit various beaches and ponder my favorites. I find Manzanita beach attractive b/c it is long (8 miles), wide, largely unpopulated and has the most spectacular views of Neah-Kah-Nie Mt.
Sunset Beach is a small litle cove at Sunset Bay State Park. It is has one of the largest harbor seal haul-out areas on the entire coast and it is very protected from the north wind.
Hug Point is a small beach with caves and an old wagon road carved into the cliff that was the main road prior to Hwy 101 being constructed in the area. My father remebers driving around it at low tide a a child in the family Model-T.
Baker Beach is even more isolated and larger than Manzanita Beach. Usually the only people you will see are those on horseback from the local stables.
Big Stump beach is on one of the most scenic areas of the coast. Beginning at the confluence of the Alsea River, it goes south to the rocky cliffs at Yachats. It is also rather easy to find unpopulated sections.
Finnaly, the beach at Humbug Mt . State Park. It reminds me very much of Fogerty Creek south of Salishan. It%26#39;s very small and there is a stream running through it. The big difference is the view. Humbug Mt and the area just south has really spectacular scenery, rivaling anything I saw on Maui.

Hi again, lisalala, another one of our favorite beaches is Gearhart. It is a ';quaint'; little town, so you may want to put this on your quaint list, also. It%26#39;s a cool little non-touristy beach town between Seaside and Astoria. We were regulars at the Pacific Way Bakery %26amp; Cafe when we spent the majority of the summer in Seaside.
If you were to start a thread on quaint places to eat, I would put this gem of a cozy restaurant on your list. Cheers! :)
I%26#39;m curious about this, syrahgirl. Have you ever been on the beach at Gearhart?
mistletoe--I think you are on to something;) LOL!
