CB/PDX Trip Plan Finally

Thanks to Mtngrl, ScarlettO1, mistletoe, syrahgirl, den, %26amp; rivergallery for all of my questions over the last few weeks. Y%26#39;all are so helpful and patient. Here%26#39;s our plan let me know if you think it%26#39;s do-able.

Also 2 dumb questions:

1-when is low tide normally?

2-What is a tide pool?

Friday - Arrive and drive to CB on Hwy 26 check in at Ocean Lodge around 3pm. Enjoy view from the balcony. Walk around CB until early dinner at JP%26#39;s.

Saturday - Spend day between Lincoln City and Depoe Bay. Thinking about doing dinner in that area since I would like to sneak out to the casino after dinner. IDEAS?

Sunday - Relax a little time on the beach, visit Seaside, Heard about a Loggers Restaurant east of Seaside eat brunch there and back to CB for R%26amp; R. Dinner at Newman%26#39;s.

Monday - Leave CB. Drive to Astoria and spend the day there and across the river in WA. Lunch at Ship Inn. HOW LONG SHOULD WE PLAN FOR THE DAY OF SIGHTS (No Hiking) in Artoria area? Drive to PDX - Check out Sauvie Island if there is time , Dinner at Higgins.

Tuesday - Chinese Garden, Rose Garden, Architechture Foundation of Oregon,- Looking Around walk, %26amp; Spa time at Barefoot Sage. Dinner TBD...

Wednesday - Visit Grotto on drive to airport (How Long should we plan for this), return to cooler Texas?

We decided against venturing down to Newport because of time. Too many great places to see and not enougfh time. We%26#39;ll focus on Central - Southern coast next trip.

Thanks Again

CB/PDX Trip Plan Finally

Hi again, Camp 18 is the Logger%26#39;s restaurant. Go with a huge appetite, they serve Cinammon rolls the size of dinner plates. We share our meals here. It%26#39;s a fun place.

You could easily fill up an entire day in Astoria. The Maritime Museum, the Flavel House, the Astor Column at Coxcomb Hill, wine taste at Shallon, the Cellar on 10th, check out the Vintner%26#39;s Room at the Hotel Elliott. Take a ride on the Riverfront Trolley.

www.oldoregon.com is a nice website for Astoria. In LC, we enjoyed a nice dinner at the Blackfish Cafe. I have a review posted here of our experience. Any further questions on Astoria, let me know! If you like high tea, there%26#39;s also a quaint little tea place called Windsor House of Tea, right across from the Cellar on 10th. Have fun! :)

CB/PDX Trip Plan Finally

Camp 18 is about 20 miles east of the coast. Personally, I would not backtrack there for a meal. I have not eaten there, but the parking lot is always full of tourist buses. I would stick with something on the coast.

As fas as tides go, the table I have says that Friday (the 25th) the low tides will be at 8:20am and 8:35pm. On Sunday they are 9:10 am and 9:44pm. The tide pools are small pools of water that usually have all sorts of marine life to see up close. During the summer months around Haystack Rock, there are docents there during low tide to point out all the interesting features and sea life.

Macciato, if you decide against Camp 18, the Shilo Inn does put on a nice Sunday Brunch. The attraction here is the ocean view while you eat. The buffet is nice, with the usual breakfast items, it%26#39;s nice to take in the oceanviews and the gorgeous Tillamook Head.

There is also the quaint little Corpeny%26#39;s, down by Ave U where you can have a fresh, made to order breakfast. They have fantastic pasteries here. Plan on around 20 minutes for your order to come out. :)

I will leave the beaches to those who live in Oregon and have much more experience, but.....

Savie Island is only about 10 miles from the Pearl District in town so depending on time of day-that trip will not take long at all, but not sure how long you will want to be on the island. Since we live here, we did a lot of market shopping for flowers and produce..but it is pretty when things are blooming. Fields of flowers! and Highland Cattle.

On Tuesday you MUST add the Japanese Gardens to you itinerary. See those before the Chinese Gardens, which are very nice but of the 2, the Japanese Gardens are a Must.

Rose Test Gardens are a short walk from the Japanese Gardens so you can definitely make it all one sightseeing trip.

I am lousy with timing on trips from point a to b but if Cannon Beach is 90 minutes from downtown Portland, Astoria is going to be at least 2 hours or more, so be sure to factor that in with possibilities of extremely slow and annoying traffic on 99 and 26 and jamming up getting into the City Center..Give yourself plenty of time for getting back for that reservation at Higgins!

The Grotto was closed the other day for some reason, check on that before making the visit..( it was on the news and I paid little attention)

Your trip sounds great and what will be even more great to you will be the fact that it is in the 100%26#39;s in Dallas and Cannon Beach was in the 50s the other day :D

Don%26#39;t forget to tell us all about the visit when you get home!!

Scarlett

There%26#39;s no such thing as a dumb question, only dumb answers! ;-)

You%26#39;ll pass Camp 18 on your way to Cannon Beach (milemarker 18!). Check it out before making a decision to have a meal there. It%26#39;s a 25 minute drive from Cannon Beach or Seaside, and I think too far given the number of good options nearby.

The last sentence of your post says you%26#39;ll focus on central coast next trip, which contradicts your plan for Saturday; Lincoln City and Depoe Bay are on the central coast. So I%26#39;m wondering when you%26#39;re planning to see Ecola State Park, Oswald West State Park, Hug Point, and other north coast sights. If you do want to head down to Lincoln City and Depoe Bay, my suggestion would be to skip Seaside.

What are your plans for Astoria? It%26#39;s a working port city with lots of maritime and Lewis %26amp; Clark history, but beyond that, not particularly unique. IMO, the two ';must sees'; are the view from the Astoria Column, and a view of the mouth of the Columbia, best seen from the interpretive center at Cape Disappointment State Park near Ilwaco, WA. Doing just those two things will give you a taste of Astoria, and a history lesson as well. Another must might be a visit to Josephson%26#39;s for some great smoked seafood. The drive back to Portland along hwy 30 is 2 - 2.5 hours.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the quick replies. We went to some of the stops Japanese Gardens, Ecola State Park, and 3 Capes when we visited last year. Definitely have Hug Point on the radar on the drive to LC. I will definitely report back.

Ahhh... now it makes sense. Guess I missed that you had visited here last year.

If you do stop at Hug Point, you%26#39;ll need to walk north on the beach far enough to see how it got it%26#39;s name. You%26#39;ll know when you get there.

Dinner in Lincoln City? Sorry, no recs, but how about for breakfast? :-) And a visit to the casino after dinner? Just don%26#39;t forget that it%26#39;s a two hour drive back to Cannon Beach. As an alternative, consider stopping at Nehalem River Inn for dinner. (http://www.nehalemriverinn.com/restaurant.htm) It%26#39;s highly thought of by several on Portland food boards, and even our occasional visitor, syrahgirl, says she likes it. The after-dinner drive to Cannon Beach would be about 25 minutes.
