Gracie's Restaurant?

It%26#39;s been years since we%26#39;ve been to Newport, but the last time we were there we ate at a restaurant called Gracie%26#39;s at Smuggler%26#39;s Cove. It was fantastic! I%26#39;ve searched and searched and can%26#39;t seem to find it listed anywhere. Does anyone know if that restaurant still exists or if it has changed hands and is called something else? My DH is going to be crushed if I have to tell him we can%26#39;t eat at Gracie%26#39;s next week!

Thanks!

Gracie's Restaurant?

Is this the place? http://www.theseahag.com/

Have a great trip. Your comments about this being your son%26#39;s last summer at home have me thinking ahead a few years......

Gracie's Restaurant?

There%26#39;s the Sea Hag in Depoe Bay... I think Gracie is still there and everything. :)

Gracie actually sold the place, but she still plays the bottles.

Hmmmm..........no, I don%26#39;t think the Sea Hag is the restaurant we ate at. This one was somewhere near the bay, and it was in an old restored house that was kind of on the side of the hill. It was a neat house. They had the BEST clam chowder we%26#39;ve ever had! Must be gone, I can%26#39;t find any mention of it anywhere. I%26#39;m sure there are lots of yummy choices in Newport for us.

Mistletoe, it%26#39;s been hard having the ';empty nest'; for the past couple of years, but our youngest son has been home for the summers at least. Next summer, he probably won%26#39;t be, so we%26#39;re enjoying the rest of this summer with him while we can. Crater Lake, then Newport, then Seaside next week will be a fun trip!

%26lt;%26lt;BEST clam chowder we%26#39;ve ever had!%26gt;%26gt;

This is a long shot, but you%26#39;re not thinking of Mo%26#39;s are you? Whatever, looks like you%26#39;ve got a great itinerary planned. If you%26#39;re so inclined, let us know how it goes. Personally, I%26#39;m mostly interested about reflections of family vacations, but, as you might have observed, first hand info about Seaside lodging would be a welcome addition to this forum as well.

Have fun!

No, not Mo%26#39;s, but we are very familiar with Mo%26#39;s. The first time I went to the original one in Newport, I was in college (over 25 years ago!). Since then we%26#39;ve been to various Mo%26#39;s restaurants a lot, both ones in Newport, and also a couple of other ones up and down the Oregon coast. They do have good chowder, but we actually liked Gracie%26#39;s chowder better.

We%26#39;re looking forward to our coast trip, and I%26#39;ll let you know how it was when we get back.

Hi Ranchgal

I%26#39;m a newbie here, but an old friend of Phirl from AOL boards....I can%26#39;t believe he hasn%26#39;t replied to this post yet (maybe he%26#39;s in Depoe Bay again?? Lucky devil....). Anyway, Gracies%26#39; Smuggler%26#39;s Cove used to be waaaay down on the other end of the bayfront in Newport, almost to the Embarcadero Hotel. There was a mock whale out front that spouted, and/or a small ferris wheel like thingy with water, right? Sorry, but that%26#39;s been closed for at least 10 years. We were by there last weekend, and I do believe they%26#39;re turning it into some cultural society building, or the like.

If you%26#39;re looking for good chowder, and ONLY good chowder, the Embarcadero has some ot the best around, it is bayfront, but its a hotel restaurant, and we usually shy away from that. We%26#39;re not big fans of Mo%26#39;s......if you%26#39;re on the Bayfront, try the new place, Ocean something or other Seafood (sorry, its very early here and I can barely see).....it is past the Wax Museum towards the Embarcadero, across the street from the bay. Saffron Salmon is good, and Port Dock One is good in a pinch, if nothing else for the view of the sea lions barking away on the docks.

Thanks, PDX! YES! I remember the wheel-thingy now that you mention it. That was the restaurant. It must have been just over 10 years ago that we were there (time flies!).

We%26#39;ve actually stayed at the Embarcadaro before, but that%26#39;s been probably almost 20 years ago.

I%26#39;m not that big a fan of Mo%26#39;s either, but my hubby likes it.

We%26#39;ll look around for Ocean-something (wink)!

well. I planned to respond when I remember what I remember about Gracies. I grew up in Newport area, and I remember Gracies and bay front, but details I forget.

Good my friend from AOL has better memory than I, and I hope that means you plan to joins us. good group and I need another central coast support person.

I remember now, but was not sure when it went away.

I don%26#39;t remember ever eating at Gracies. My mother was a friend of Mo%26#39;s and when we went out to eat we went there, which was not often. My wife became a fan of Mo%26#39;s so now I go there with her. It is ok, but after Mo died quality of most stuff dropped in my view. I only eat the chowder any more.

Mo was a character. If we came in and she was there, soon every one else knew, cause she came to say hi and she did not speak softly. Easy person to like. Now her granddaughter runs it. and as I recall for a time mgt was out of family.

My daughter lived there a few years in my house in Toledo. when I went down alone to do house things she and i went to Chowder Bowl, Nye Beach,

And two weeks before Depoe Bay.
