Well, just outside it, we are going to Hilsboro :-) We are coming over in December for 4 weeks, and we are coming to go house-hunting. We are hoping to move over next year sometime, and it will be a huge move for us since we are Scottish :D We want to fit some sight-seeing and things in while we are there, so does anyone know of anything to do? We last visited in December 2003 and loved it, we visited the Multnahma (sp?) Falls, we went tubing on Mt Hood and done some shopping in Woodburn (I think?). Thank you!
I'm coming to Portland!Hi there! www.portland.com is a nice website for you. Check out the Pioneer Place in downtown Portland for your shopping or spend a chilly Dec. afternoon in Powell%26#39;s books.
We like Carlyle, Wildwood, Fenouil for nice lunches in Portland. Have fun and good luck with your house hunting! :)
I'm coming to Portland!Hey!
4 weeks is a grea amount of time to househunt here, December will give you an idea of the not so great weather Portland can have :) We were here 3 times before moving here, all in the summer, so we had no idea what to expect. Regardless, we love living in Portland !
Coming from Scotland, the ';soft'; rainy days will be familiar and I think you will settle in quite nicely :)
I guess the best sight seeing in December will be indoors and maybe on a dry/good day you could drive out to the Coast, being only 90 minutes from downtown. Although contrary to our visitor ,syrahgirls ideas of chilly, December can be mild and pleasant, we have a dog that requires many walks a day and we are outdoors every day, regardless of weather, you will find the mildness pleasant, I think, with less or no threat of snow or ice.
I will include my GoLists here, for ideas on what to do in town. And where to eat, based on personal experience.
But my short list would be the Art Museum, see if you can get tickets to a ballet or concert at the Schnitzer Concert Hall, of course, Christmas shopping :) at Pioneer Square Mall and all the charming and quirky shops in the Pearl and in the NW ( NW 23rd Street)
You can get all around town by Streetcar so regardless of weather, you can enjoy the town.
There are so many good restaurants, new ones that are getting great reviews as well as old standbys like Paleys and Wildwood, after reading the GoLists , you can request more info if you need it :)
Let us know if you have specific questions, we Locals love to give advice :)
