Portland 11/24-25

My mom and I are driving to Portland (from Seattle) the day after Thanksgiving to hit the after Thanksgiving sales.

We are staying at The Benson - got a good deal through Priceline. Are we within walking distance to the downtown shops or will I need to drive? Also, are there lots of restaurants close to the hotel? Just looking for casual dining - nothing fancy.

Thanks!

You don%26#39;t need the car, streetcars and walking will get you all over town.

Yes, there are restaurants all around the Benson and close by, hoppiing on the streetcar can get you to the Pearl District or NW where some of the really good places are, shopping also..and no, you can be casual just about everywhere in Portland.

Very close to you..there are the restaurants IN the Benson, then across the street there is Typhoon, Thai, down a couple of blocks is the Red Star Tavern at the 5th Ave Suites hotel, very good..Mothers Bistro, Mama Mia on 2nd Ave %26amp; Stark...

Look at my list of Places to eat in Portland .. your biggest problem will be making a choice :)

Scarlett is right you do not need a car downtown. Parking would be terrible that day. I don%26#39;t keep track but the stores open pretty early on Fri my d-i-l will probably leave here at dawn. not for downtown.

Tri-Met is free downtown, and they run on 5th and 6th. also free to Lloyd Center Mall. so you can ride if you buy a bunch of things

You are in a perfect location to skip a car. You can walk to Nordstroms, Banana Republic, and boutique shops like Monique%26#39;s in The Pearl. Easy rapid transit ride to Lloyd Center and Macy%26#39;s.

Dining should be easy from the Benson. Scarlett mentioned great places plus the hotel itself has good food.

If you need more info, tell us what kind of shopping you are looking for and we will help!

You will be just a few blocks - if that - from the light rail, which can get you within one bus ride of Beaverton shopping too, like Washington Square. I don%26#39;t know how much Beaverton Mall has for those kinds of sales. Washington Square would be much better. I%26#39;d say pass on Beaverton Mall.

The Lloyyd Center mentioned is nice. If you ice skate, it has a rink with skater rentals.

Downtown is fine also.

You picked one of the finest places to stay.
