We are driving from Seattle and down through San Fran to LA - pal springs. how long do you think that may be.
our plan is actually to start in whistler BC and snowbaord, then head to seattle and rent a car. from there we will drive to portland and stay a couple of days and then head to san fran and on to LA.
can this trip be done in 2 1/2 weeks?
cheers

Seattle to LA
I think so. Sounds like you will have 10 hour drives each day, approx. Is there anything you want to see or do on the way down? On the way back, give yourself extra time just in case there is snow in the Siskiyous or near Mt. Shasta, both in Northern Cal. You do not want to do these drives in the dark if there is snow or ice because usually you can only drive in one lane of the freeway and being between two very large trucks can cause some white knuckle driving.
Most of the rest stops have brochures/magazines with inexpensive accommodations advertised inside. I wouldn%26#39;t recommend most of the places if you are planning to stay within Portland or San Francisco but if you want to stop and sleep just off I-5, you can get some good deals.

2 1/2 weeks. sure can be done. have no idea what you would like to do

Two weeks would probably work if you are not planning to stay very long in one place. Allow 4 hours for the trip from Seattle to Portland. I-5 freeway is always crowded in the Seattle area south past Tacoma. Portland to Medford or Ashland OR (famous for its Shakespean Festival--plays presented year %26#39;round) is about a 5 hr drive. Plan your trip so that you are traveling over the Siskiyou Mts during daylight. (Medford to Redding, CA). The weather is unpredictable in the wintertime. Medford to San Francisco is an easy one day drive and San Francisco to LA can also be done in one day. Palm Springs is just a few hours out of LA.
