Wife has been asking ?%26#39;s about our mid Oct. vac. How about attire? Thinking of the Pacific water and tide pools; what type of shoes would you recommend? If we wander the shoreline on low tides, what about clothes, too. Sandals are out correct? Water proof shoes? Not quite sure. The tide chart shows that we are going to be on the shore quite early some days. Bye the way this is a great resource for vacationers. Thanks so much for your time. We expect our vac. to be that more fun and organized.
Silly, but would like to know??
Hard to tell what you might get in midOct. could still be fairly nice, but als the fall storms could move in.
Those tide pool rocks can be rough and sharp. wear some thing that will stay on. and I always wear somthing that covers all of my foot. I usually wear canvas type that I don%26#39;t care if they get wet.
I also never wear shorts at tide pools because easy to slip and fall to your knees. at least for me
Layer yourself. bring a light weight jacket, fairly weather proof. I like thigh length beauce run off gets less on pants.
Those mornings likely will be chilly so wear what you like for warmth, over somehing you can wear a bit later when it warms up some. . Get something for ears and head.
we usually take water shoes to coast, but not good for tidepooling in my view cause they can cut and then they leak.
Silly, but would like to know??
I like wearing Tevas or similar. My feet do get cold but I can%26#39;t stand getting my tennies wet (soggy ick) and growing up going to the OR coast on a regular basis, I guess I just expect the frigid water so it doesn%26#39;t bother me.
Flip flops would not be a good idea as they are not secure on your foot and the soles tend to be thin.
Clothes... Layers always. Mid-Oct it will be colder than in the summer although sometimes the weather can surprise you (I wouldn%26#39;t count on it). In the summer, I start my layers with a tank top. In the winter, a long underwear top or long-sleeved t-shirt. Add to that a sweater or sweatshirt (if it%26#39;s really cold, I throw on a turtleneck under that but on top of the t). Then the windbreaker (I usually bring my goretex Columbia jacket). Top with a hat, scarf and gloves. You can always strip down but once you%26#39;re out there it can be too late or too much work to head back to the house, hotel or car for more.
I wore my oldest sneakers and just threw them away after..get yourselves some cheap Keds just for this purpose :)
phirl and sparkle have it covered :)
I wear soemthing like a tee shirt, cotton zip turtleneck sweater, cotton jacket with jeans or khakis rolled up. You can just unpeel the layers when you leave the beach :)
If it happens to be a warm day, you can get away with some Keen type shoes. They let the water flow, but stay on your feet and have good traction. If it is cold, then do the old shoe routine. I have a pair that I keep for just that purpose.
As for clothing, yes, layers is the way to go. Fleece is a staple around here, but don%26#39;t forget something to block the wind.
Wow! If those who posted check back, thanks so much that helps out alot. We can have our stuff with us when we get there, that means more time to see Oregon. Instead of store hoppin.
Glad to help:) Please let us know how the trip goes!
I look forward to hearing all about your trip..have a great time!
