Yachats

Hi Den!

I read that yesterday in the Sunday paper, it was very enjoyable! ( I am one of those ';wanting to know more';) :)

Thank you!

Yachats

den, many thanks for that link. We’re staying in Yachats mid-October. We picked it by the quality of the rental house %26amp; assumed the location would be a lovely coast town – this article confirms what we thought.

We have friends recently back from %26amp; extolling the virtues of Neskowin – how quiet, quaint, unhurried – a beach town of old (one had spent summers there as a child %26amp; had very fond memories %26amp; was pleased to see that, on the whole, it was as he remembered). They had to go into Lincoln City for groceries %26amp; decried the sprawl %26amp; lack of charm. I’m sure we’ll get to Neskowin, and I’m sure we’ll go to LC. And I know we’ll have a lovely time wherever. I dunno – one person’s unspoiled charm is another’s shabby: someone’s modernization is another’s “they’re destroying everything”. Sometimes I want rustic, sometimes yuppified. Sometimes I shop, sometimes I walk in the wilderness. Thank goodness there’s room for it all.

(Sorry for the rant %26amp; cheap philosophy – must be the passage of time!)

Thanks, Den. I saw the article in yesterday%26#39;s paper too, and read it with mixed emotions. Yachats is such a cool little place, and I would sure hate to see it be spoiled in ways like other popular coastal communities.

It was with a bit of sadness that I read this article as well, but all things do change...except maybe Neskowin. I drive through there on a regular basis and have since 1978 and I can honestly say, from Hwy 101, nothing has changed.

Thanks, I guess, dengay, for this post and news. I%26#39;ve been to the coast many times and charming Yachats has always been a favorite central location for hikes and sighseeing. Sad to hear of all the development. I hope the land use restrictions are such that the development impact both ecologically and visually is minimized.

Voyaging,

It appears most of the new developments are occuring one, up the Yachats River and two, on the hillside east of Hwy 101. The development on the hillside reminds me very much of what has occurred in Rockaway Beach, with houses, some VERY large, popping up out of the landscape. Not a very pretty sight, but for most, their attention is drawn to the beautiful coastline to the west.

The Overleaf Village is another rather large residential development adjacent to the Overleaf Lodge, but it%26#39;s well designed and visually is nearly unnoticable from anywhere but in within the village itself.

Den

Thanks, dengay. I enjoy your posts.
