Sooner Fans in Oregon

We will be attending the Oregon/Oklahoma game in a few weeks. We fly into Portland and spend Thursday night. We will drive to Eugene for Friday and Sat. night. Any suggestions for must sees in Portland and also best route to take to Eugene. We have never been to Oregon.Suggestions for Eugene would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Silver Creek Falls could be nice visit, just east of Salem

Or you could visit the best college in oregon in Corvallis

What exactly would you like to do or see here, and how much time to you have to do it? Do you prefer driving around and looking at scenery, or hiking, or shopping, or what? I%26#39;m assuming that the game is on Saturday, but lately they%26#39;ve been scheduling some games on Friday or even Thursday nights (I believe that the Beavs play at least one Thursday night game this year). Do you have a lot of time to spend in Portland? A bit more information would help people to answer your questions - even the one about the best route. I-5 is the obvious choice as it%26#39;s the fastest route, but if you have time and are looking for things to do, then maybe it%26#39;s not your best bet.

I second Silver Creek Falls, by the way.

Oh, and what%26#39;s the date of the game? If it%26#39;s the same weekend as Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel, I%26#39;d definitely steer you in that direction...

The game is on Sat. Sept. 16th. We have Friday to spend in Portland or to drive to Eugene and stop along the way. Walking is great but we probably can%26#39;t hike. Is there an area of Porltand to walk and see historic sites? Not much for shopping since this is a guys trip. We are not opposed to taking the scenic route to Eugene. Suggestions for a casual place to eat near the airport Thursday night. Thanks for your help. Also if we take the I-5 route how long is the drive?

How about a drive down the Oregon coast? Out OR-18 through wine country to Lincoln City south along 101 to Florence and inland there to Eugene. Could be a long day if you stop much but some great scenery. and something you can%26#39;t see in Oklahoma.

If that interests you could give you a few suggestions of where to stop.

I-5 portland to Eugene just under 2 hours, but very boring

A guys weekend, huh... So, I guess the test rose gardens, and classical Japanese and Chinese gardens are out, then... Pity, they%26#39;re all blooming a beautiful yellow and green this year. ;-)

First, unless you%26#39;re planning to drive up the Columbia Gorge the day of arrival, don%26#39;t stay near the airport. Downtown is only 15 minutes away, and you%26#39;ll have many better options for dinner, and maybe a chance to do a little sightseeing. I%26#39;d suggest something like Henry%26#39;s 12th Street Tavern or Bridgeport Brewpub for dinner.

I agree with phirl about Friday. Portland is a great city, but not that unique. And I don%26#39;t know why you%26#39;d be interested in the city%26#39;s historical sites(?). Oregon%26#39;s coast, on the other hand, is one of a kind, especially along the stretch that phirl is suggesting. You might even squeeze a dune buggy ride into the late afternoon.

I don%26#39;t know Eugene well enough to suggest a good place for after the game Saturday. Most of the spots I know will be filled with celebrating Duck fans. ;-)

Most motels in Eugene are probably already booked for the game weeekend, especially those close to the University. It%26#39;s a long shot, but you might try the Hampton Inn on west 11th street. Even though it%26#39;s some 15 minutes to the University, it%26#39;s a long shot b/c all in all there are not that many nice motels in Eugene/Springfield and they fill up quickly. The Hampton Inn is about as far away from Autzen Stadium as you%26#39;ll get in the metro area. Also, parking at Autzen is a nightmare. You should SERIOUSLY consider taking an LTD shuttle bus.

Den

Den you are right sure hope they have rooms. Game appears to be late afternoon. so if they don%26#39;t could stay at coast.

I said 2 hours I-5 Portland to Eugene, but that is not before or after football games at OSC or UO. I completely avoid I-5 at those times.

Phil

Hookem Horns and Go Ducks!

Thanks for the nice suggestions. A drive along the coast sounds nice and my 70 year old Dad will enjoy that also. We already have rooms in Eugene for Friday and Sat night. Anything to do close to the stadium.. bars, restaurants? Thanks!

Hey, looks like you%26#39;ll be here during Oktoberfest! If you decide not to do the coast, you might want to check out the party in Mt. Angel. I tried to google the website, but it doesn%26#39;t seem to be working - maybe if you google it later, it%26#39;ll work for you. Other than that, the coast would probably be a wonderful choice.
