For hotels during the week and weekends, do we need reservations? We will be traveling from Crescent City, Ca to Astoria.
It will include a weekend at both points. Crater Lake is very high priced on their last weekend open, so we elected to stay outside the park. Mid October, no holidays, I don%26#39;t believe. By the way, we took some advice and rented a mid size suv, just in case. Thanks!
Do you feel that a week (Sun through the following Monday) is to long for that on the coast trip? Thank you so much for all your time.
Reservations needed? Week on the coast
I would still book ahead for the weekends, but not during the week. As for how much time, I think your relaxed pace is a good idea. No reason to rush through if you don%26#39;t have to.
Reservations needed? Week on the coast
Mtngrl is right on. Weekends on the coast could be tough w/o a resy. During the week should be okay. And yes, a week should give you time to explore.
Den
No, not long enough, LOL. We were on the coast for over six weeks this summer and didn%26#39;t want to leave! Where are you staying on the northern coast? Yes, make reservations it%26#39;s better to be safe than sorry. :)
Last summer I bumped into a couple at a roadside park between Gold Beach and Port Orford who were doing the same thing you%26#39;re planning, except north to south. I remember him saying they had originally planned five days, but ended up adding a couple to that, and wishing they could add more. As Mtngrl and Den imply, you probably won%26#39;t regret for a minute giving yourself as much time as you%26#39;ve planned.
Syrahgirl, for as many years as you say you%26#39;ve been visiting Oregon, have you ever spent more than one night on the coast while driving between your home in California and the north coast?
As far as northern Oregon Coast we are considering Cannon beach/Ecola S.P. Possibly Oswald Bach S.P, Manzanta. Might stay in one area up there and drive to others areas? Something like Seaside for 2-3 days and travel between distinations? Really unsure. This is our itnerary so far, between Brookings and Cape Blanco, then between Umpqua Lighthouse and Cape Perpetua, then between Agate Beasch S.P. and Devil%26#39;s Punchbowl S. Nat Area, then Tillimook (Cheese factory), finally 2 or 3 days Seaside??
You can easily base yourself in one place for the northern coast and still have easy drives to see everything. I would suggest Cannon Beach over Seaside. Seaside is a carnival atmosphere, while Cannon Beach is much more refined and more pleasant, IMO.
