25th Anniversary Place to stay

Hello. My wife %26amp; I plan to spend our 25th anniversary in Lincoln City or Newport around September 28. Can anyone recommend a small %26amp; cozy Mom %26amp; Pop hotel with a great veiw %26amp; beach access. Doesn%26#39;t have to be a Mom %26amp; Pop place but would like to stay away from a large chain hotel

Thank you.

Randy

25th Anniversary Place to stay

Years ago, i heard about a perhaps-mythical hotel on the coast that didn%26#39;t have TVs or phones, didn%26#39;t allow kids, didn%26#39;t allow pets, and wasn%26#39;t marked on any map or advertised on any website. The only way you knew you were close to it was the tiny gravel driveway heading up the hill off 101. Has anyone else heard of this place? Cuz that sounds like it would be perfect.

25th Anniversary Place to stay

Well oregone, Sylvia Beach doesn%26#39;t have TV%26#39;s and phones, and I don%26#39;t remember seeing kids or pets the several times we%26#39;ve stayed there. But there%26#39;s nothing mythical about it!

Do your ';friends'; participate on the forum, syrahgirl. It would be nice to hear from someone who%26#39;s stayed at the Looking Glass Inn as opposed to just read about it. I know its location generally across the street from Mo%26#39;s, where the view is mostly of the bay. And I think it%26#39;s a bit of a walk to the beach.

Since none of us have a great recommendation for you bammort, I thought I%26#39;d ask if there%26#39;s a reason you chose the Lincoln City and Newport area. You might have more and better options - albeit probably more expensive - further north, particularly in Cannon Beach.

Nice suggestion about the home rental. I%26#39;ve found from comments on our beach rental property that many vacationers appreciate the comforts of home away from home.

A vacation home will give you lots more room than a hotel provides and is much more comfortable for extended stays. Good Luck! :)

Not sure if you are interested in staying further north on the coast but we just returned from our stay in Oregon (for our 20th anniversary) and we found the best place in Manzanita through a recommendation on this forum. It is called Inn at Manzanita. It was the best! 1 block from beach (barely), very romantic (jacuzzi and fireplace in each unit) and the innkeepers (Mark and Nancy) are very nice and accommodating. The beach there is amazing. 7 miles long and uncrowded. The town was small and not full of tourists like Cannon Beach and Seaside. We ate at some great places in the area too. I%26#39;d highly recommend this place. I%26#39;ll write a hotel review in the near future.

We love Manzanita! It%26#39;s a great place. Did you make it to the Nahalem River Inn for dinner? We had one of our best meals of the summer there a couple of weeks ago. :)

While we were waiting in line at La Fiesta (Cannon Beach) we were chatting with a couple that re-located from Lake Oswego to Manzanita about five years ago and they just love living on the coast. Did you go to Blue Sky Cafe? I%26#39;ve heard mixed reviews on the place. We used to love Fireside Cafe (now Bistro Manzanita) but have heard mixed reviews on it also. :)

Hi Syrahgirl. No, we didn%26#39;t make it to Nahalem River Inn but our host highly recommended it. Instead, we headed to Wheeler to a small place (gosh, I forget the name) that is owned by some well seasoned chef who decided to move to Wheeler and enjoy the quiet life. The food was great. The chef%26#39;s name is Mark and I%26#39;m sure some of you know where I am talking about. They only take maybe 15 people at a time. (They turned away many as we sat there even though there were 4-5 open tables.) We also ate in Manzanita at a place whose name escapes me too. It%26#39;s a yellow cottage near 101 which during the day doubles as a pizza and malt shop and at night the other half is fine dining. Husband and wife run this. We found that meal to be very good too. Had breakfast at the Big Wave and that was average. And had some clam chowder at the seafood place. Our host didn%26#39;t recommend the Bistro Manzanita. Said that some guests went there that day and had terrible service and not so good food. It was hard to remember all the places that were recommended on the forum. We visited Cannon Beach but didn%26#39;t have a meal there. We found that Seaside and Cannon Beach were too busy for us to stay there (nice to visit and shop but then ready to leave) but Manzanita fit the bill perfectly.
