Oregon Coast Question

Hello everyone!!!

My family and I will be traveling to Oregon for the very first time from Michigan. What would you recommend on visiting? We plan on traveling the ';101'; towards maybe Cannon Beach. If we have three days, where you recommend to go on the coast?

Thanks!!!

Oregon Coast Question

From the sounds of it, you will be driving, correct?? If so, which direction will you be entering Oregon from??

Oregon Coast Question

Are you coming from the North or South? What ages are your kids?

Personally I can skip Seaside and never miss it but it%26#39;s a touristy area with bumper cars, cheap restaurants, a tacky, tiny aquarium etc. Preteen and teens love it!

I have two younger boys and they love the Maritime Museum in Astoria and visiting Cannon Beach. Astoria is still spread out and not as accomodating so you may just want to drive through after visiting the museum. Park in Cannon Beach and enjoy the lovely town, restaurants, taffy store etc.

I%26#39;ve been to the coast so many times and I wouldn%26#39;t say there is anything you HAVE to do. Just being there is so magical it%26#39;s best to find a pretty spot and enjoy. Oswald State Park is a popular place to hike down to the beach. But it is beautiful everywhere. Farther south you%26#39;ll find tiny towns of Arch Cape, Manzanita, Nehalem etc. where you could find yourself alone on the beach.

Hi and welcome to the TA forums! Cannon Beach, Oswald West State Park, Astoria are all great suggestions. What are your interests? :)

Hi

When you say you are going to be traveling 101 towards Cannon Beach, where do you plan on coming from? which direction?

From Portland, I believe you would take 26 to 99W then 101 S and you are right there. ( It is 90 minutes from downtown Portland)

Personally, I would stay in Cannon Beach and just visit Seaside ( carnival atmosphere might appeal to small kids) and Ecola State Park..there is enough to do there that will keep you busy for 3 days.

SurfSand hotel in Cannon Beach is kid/pet friendly, right on the beach and has rooms with decks etc.

There are plenty of reasonable places to eat and then there are the beaches and rocks and tidepools.

It will be a lovely introduction to you and your family to the Oregon Coast.

Good luck, let us know any questions you have..

Here is a GoList from one of our Local Beach residents to give you ideas.

I%26#39;m going to assume you are flying into Portland. Like the others, I would therefore strongly recommend Cannon Beach. In order, my hotel recommendations would be The Ocean Lodge, The Surfsand, The Inn at Cannon Beach. The Stephanie is in the class of The Ocean Lodge but does not allow children (I don%26#39;t know the age limit.)

The Oregon Coast is very long. You%26#39;ve asked a question somewhat the same as me asking you where on the Michigan shore should I go and I only have three days and I%26#39;m probably arriving in Detroit.

The Oregon Coast is generally made up of sandy beaches nestled at the base of fir-covered coastal mountains. Some are quite large like Cannon Beach. Others are just small coves. The water here is cold year round so unless your children are from here and you%26#39;re wearing a weat suit, don%26#39;t plan on spending a lot of time in the water.

South from Cannon Beach there are wonderful places including Bandon Dunes with massive sand dunes and an extremely impressive golf facility. Myrtle Beach is cool and there are the Sea Lion caves, too. I would only recommend going to these places if you have more time or are on a road trip to the beaches of northern California. Otherwise, you will find Cannon Beach a beautiful example of our best beaches. And, there is a host of good hotels and restaurants.

I echo the comments on Seaside. It%26#39;s carnivally and little kids like it, but I haven%26#39;t stayed there since I was a kid. I%26#39;m not all that big a fan of Astoria. It%26#39;s a place to see, but no beach to speak of and not much else to do.
