Trimet Pass help

I%26#39;m trying to figure out the whole pass system. I will not have a rental car for my four days in Portland. I visited the trimet store online and they only had single passes and the 7 day visitor pass, all zones. Do you recommend I get the 7 day visitor pass...or if not, how many single passes should i buy? I just like having passes readily available before I get to a new city. And another thing...what is the rule about a pass only being good for two hours?

thanks!

Single pass = single ticket, which is just a ride ticket good for two hours from the time it%26#39;s validated. Price for a single ticket depends on on how many zones it covers. From what I%26#39;ve read of your posts, it appears you won%26#39;t need any more than one-zone tickets (unless you%26#39;re planning to ride MAX in from the airport), but it%26#39;s hard to recommend single tickets over a pass without knowing how much running around you%26#39;re planning. Just guessing here, but the convenience of the 7-day pass probably make it worth buying, and might even save you a couple bucks.

If you mean the Streetcar pass being good for 2 hours, it allows one to get on and off the streetcar and not have to buy tickets each time. The streetcar route is a loop around the city (Riverfront -Downtown-Pearl-NW and back) so you can get off a Powells, shop and get back on and go eat in NY etc.

We have only used the Max train to go from downtown to the Washington Pk/zoo so that was just one ticket.

Every streetcar has a little ticket machine as you get on and it seems most people just buy their tickets when they get on..* those who do pay-which is another issue altogether*...There is a Fareless Square which is a very large area of town that you can get on and get off free.

I%26#39;d go with the visitor pass. As an avid tri-met commuter- I%26#39;ve even thought about buying the 7 day pass as it is cheaper than the book of All-zone tickets that I use in 1 week! You probably won%26#39;t need to go far to see many things- but just in case you run out of things to do- you may want the 7day visitor pass and visit the %26#39;burbs. Actually-if you feel adventuous and want to get away from the city, you could rent a bike and ride the bus out to Estacada and go for a bike ride on the Clackamas River.

we were in NYC May 2005 and bought three 7 day passes, for wife, granddaughter and me. we paid for those by third day. It was so handy to get on and off and not worry about fares.

Following your other posts you seem very logical person to have Tri-met pass. Seems to me you may well get on and off tri-met several times.

Tri-met nothing like NYC or DC but still pretty good bus system for those who are not in huge hurry. and if you get schedules you can plan times for only short waits. In NYC we did not even worry about schedules cause they were frequent. here they are a bit less so.

There is also an ';All-Day'; Ticket, good in all-zones, for $4/day.

It%26#39;s good on MAX, Streetcar and busses. It%26#39;s listed on the Tri-Met website (http://trimet.org/fares/index.htm) below the LIFT fare.

These might work for you if you don%26#39;t plan on usuing Tri-Met every day of your visit (since a 7-day pass is $19/All-Zone or $16/2 Zone).
