what to do in the Bend area

We like to easy hike and take photos. Is there enough in the Bend area for two nights - including surrounding parks, etc. We would love to see some good wildlife.

Also, where is the best place to stay. Is in the town the best or most convenient for restaurants, etc.?

I sort of forget your agenda. thought you were leaving early one day and taking awhile to get there so 2 nights can mean one day. and easy to find enough to do in a day

Newberry Crater, Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway with several possible short hikes.

McKenzie Pass good way to go to coast with its big lava beds.

For accomodations, we like the Phoenix Inn downtown (if you want to be close to downtown and restaurants). I would recommend the Alpenglow for breakfast - or if you are willing to go a little further then try the Victorian Cafe.

There are some great short hikes around the river - Dillon Falls, Tumalo Falls. You can ride the chairlift at Mt Bachelor and hike up there. Shevlin Park is also nice.

I for one could help you better if I knew your plan. You keep posting to separate sites asking questions, I have lost track of your plan.

I know you plan to leave CO for coast and maybe stop in Eugene or Salem and you may start south from Cannon Beach or Newport. Ok with me if you have questions like that but when they are scattered hard to follow.

We have some pretty regular good posters who I think would respond better to here is my full plan question.

I jsut returned from 6 fdays in bend and I didn%26#39;t get to do/see half of what i wanted to.

LOTS of light/easy hikes all over, take a ski lift up Mt. Bahelor and do the quickhike to the summit, East Lake and Paulina Lake (and you can drive up to Paulina Peak), we wanted to hike to Paulina Falls but ran out of time, the whole Newberry area was neat, the obsidian flow is an easy hike too. Lots of lakes, mountains and hikes along hte river.

My sister had a book of hikes in the area and there were 15+ pages for the Bend area, most fairly easy.
