I am driving to San Francisco but am not able to drive straight through, any recommendations where to stop and stay overnight
thanks
half-way stopover from Vanc.B.C.to San Francisco? Are you just looking for a bed, or something more? And is there a reason you posted this on the Cannon Beach forum? If you%26#39;re planning to drive the coastal route, it will be a stretch to make it, even it two days.
If you%26#39;re planning on I-5, half way puts you somewhere in central to southern Oregon. I%26#39;d suggest going a little beyond, to Ashland, home of the Shakespeare Festival. You might not see a play, but you could still catch the Green Show and know that you%26#39;ll be able to find a good meal. And depending on when you%26#39;re traveling, you%26#39;ll likely have options for several more-than-just-a-bed type places, too.
half-way stopover from Vanc.B.C.to San Francisco?I have heard good things about Cannon Beach and was hoping to stay there on our way to San Francisco. However only if it is not too much out of the way of the quickest route to San Francisco. I appreciate your reply. Thanks
Cannon Beach IS worth a stop, but it%26#39;s about a 3 hour detour from the quickest route to the bay area. And, it would leave most of your driving for the second day (11 hours +/-).
that won%26#39;t work as we need to be in San Francisco by at least noon on Saturday. Maybe we will check out Cannon Beach on the way back to Vancouver.
Any suggestions where to stay at say the 8 hr driving mark. It takes us 5 1/2 hrs. to drive to Portland, I believe it is a 15 1/2 hr. drive to San Francisco .
appreciate your input
thanks
Yes, you are right with the driving times. Eugene would be about halfway. Not a typical tourist destination, but a perfectly acceptable place to stay the night.
Sorry, I meant to say that Eugene would not quite be halfway. The hard part is that there isn%26#39;t much between Eugene and the southern towns of say Grants Pass/Medford/Ashland. A lot may depend on what traffic you encounter in Seattle. Portland traffic is a piece of cake most of the time. So what time of day you are leaving, what time you are hitting the Seattle area, and just general traffic. You may want to just wait and not make a reservation, and see how far you get. Just be sure to have places noted down for both Eugene and southern OR so that you have specific hotels to call once you know where you plan to stop.
Roesburg may be an option as well. It%26#39;s a little over an hour south of Eugene. Due to a sudden growth spurt, there have been a lot of new development, including nice motels, popping up all over.
If you decide on Eugene, I recommned the Valley River Inn.

thanks to all for your replies, I so love and appreciate these forums.
You could also stop in Jacksonville (just west of Medford) and catch a concert at the Britt Fest.
Hi all,
I am also in a similar boat with highmetabolism, I will be driving down with my family with 2 kids (5 and 7) and wanted suggestions of where to stop for the night from Portland to San Francisco. I just don%26#39;t think my kids will make it (and my sanity) Any recommendations are also appreciated!
