Where is the best mall/area or store to shop for a long formal evening gown for our state pageant. We have always gone to Washington Square mall and stayed at the Embassy Suites in Tigard for our annual Portland shopping trips. However, this year we will specifically be shopping for a long, formal gown. So any tips, advice on the best mall or even a recommended store (even a wedding gown store ma work!) Is Washington Square still our best bet? Thanks Portland experts!!!
Best shopping?I would check at Saks Fifth Avenue downtown (that%26#39;s where I buy many my gowns for black-tie events). The Mercantile also has nice dresses.
Mario%26#39;s and St John (across the street from each other on Broadway) but both are more expensive than Saks and I%26#39;m not sure Mario%26#39;s has full-length this time of year.
Next door to St John, on Broadway, is a store I%26#39;m drawing a blank on --the designer does prom dresses and the like. She did Gunny Sax dresses back in the 80s.
NW 23rd has a couple of shops you might want to check out as well.
Best shopping?I agree about Saks ( look in Pioneer Square , there are so many shops and a few with gowns.) and Nordstroms ( there today, so many nice fall fashions in ) and I think Washinton Sq mall is good too. I was just in Mercantile today also and there is not much of a choice in long formal gowns.
But there are a couple of stores with gowns in town, one that I cannot remember the name of but it is on NW 23rd..
I am sorry, I meant, PIONEER PLACE...the mall where Saks can be found on 5th Avenue. :) There won%26#39;t be many dresses in Pioneer Square lol..
I agree about Saks and Nordstrom. I have purchased many formal evening gowns at both stores throughout the years. Washington Square is nice though in that there are a few other stores you might find something. Meier %26amp; Frank has gowns, but shopping there can be not very enjoyable since things are shoved on racks, and not nicely displayed, thus wrinkled, etc.
M%26amp;Frank downtown is undergoing a huge renovation with Macys having bought them, so I would skip the store altogether...
Scarlett--Same thing at the WA SQ location. The funny thing is, the WA SQ location has been much nicer than the downtown one, but that isn%26#39;t saying much at all. DD found a homecoming dress there last year, and while the prices are very inexpensive, shopping there drove me up a wall!
HI Sparkle! Are you thinking of Jessica McClintock? She has a gorgeous store in downtown Portland that we love. You may want to take a peek in there , suzanne537. Good luck! :)
syrahgirl, you shop at the store in Portland? How nice, tell us about it, I guess I missed where you must have talked about it..
The Jessica McClintock store is on SW Broadway, suzanne :)
YES! Jessica McClintok - That%26#39;s it! For the life of me I couldn%26#39;t remember it.
On 23rd, I%26#39;d check out Lena Medoyeff, Cocoon Silk (I haven%26#39;t been in there yet so I can%26#39;t say if they%26#39;d have what you%26#39;re looking for) and a local designer I%26#39;m drawing a blank on (which kills me because I was just in there -- it%26#39;s on the same side of the street as Dana Lynn -- they had some really great dresses).
Local designer, Michelle DeCourcy down in the Pearl might have something...
I love the Jessica McClintock perfume, also. Reminds me I need to put that on my Chirstmas list! We also love the boutiques in Nob Hill. :)
