I realize we will be sitting in the visitor section but we need some football advice. Is the stadium located on campus? Are there bars and restaurants near the stadium that would be Sooner friendly? Game day activities for the fans? We are excited to visit Oregon and to have a Ducks gameday experience. Also any restaurant suggestions for Friday night in downtown Eugene. Thanks!
Ducks Game
Autzen Stadium not near UO campus. Not much commercial near stadium. Hope your motel convenient to stadium. As Den says parking is a mess.
Best place to find Sooner friendly might be Corvallis home of OSU, kidding of course.
Ducks Game
Yes, if the Sooners win, Corvallis will welcome you with open arms:)
Friend of mine from Missoula went to Montana game in Eugene last year. They went to Montana tail gate party in area east of stadium Suppose you already have info about OK tail parties
Duck fans, like most college sports fans, are pretty rabid. Unless you don%26#39;t mind keeping a low profile and/or some good natured ribbing, I%26#39;d stay away from all establishments near the campus or Autzen Stadium b4 and after the game. The loss in last year%26#39;s bowl game has left a bitter taste in most duck fans and they will be looking for revenge on the field.
Not sure where in Eugene you will be staying, but if you like oriental food, Ocean Sky on 13th and Chambers is pretty good. Lots of food and a very reasonable price. On Gateway Street in Springfield (across the I-5 freeway) are a bunch of chain restaurarants like Appleby%26#39;s and the Roadhouse Grill.

Thanks for the advice. I%26#39;m sure Ducks fans are like most... some good, some bad. We met some Oregon fans last year when they visited Norman. They stopped at our tailgate to visit and we shared our beer and water. I think the heat was tough on them. In addition to all of the OU home games, we try to make one away game each season. We have visited all of the Big 12 schools except Iowa State. Alabama and Notre Dame were fun. This will be our first trip to the West Coast. It%26#39;s fun to see how other schools celebrate on gameday. In general, most fans are very nice. I think they realize if you travel to away games you love your team, school, and football. We don%26#39;t mind a little teasing... all in good fun. We try to keep our mouths shut and hopefully our team will do the talking on the field. I%26#39;m looking forward to visiting Oregon and appreciate all of your good tips.
Steph--You sound like a great fan and great visitor:)
I spent 5 years at OSC, we went to Rose Bowl when I was there. Tommy Prothro. Joe Francis
I hoped for years the Ducks would lose every game, but in the 20 some down years for football at OSU, I found my self rooting for UO on occasion, nice to have winning Oregon team, but Beavs have come back. I am drifting back to Ducks lose every game, lol.
And yes, you sound like a great fan
Phirl--LOL! We always have a dilemna at our house when UO plays UW. We want both of them to lose:) Always cheer for WSU though as they get the same back seat treament as us Beavs:)
The stadium is near the campus, but not on campus. Right across the river, there is a walking path that all the students use tp get across. Not far at all.
The bar nearest to the stadium is Kowloons. Lots of TV%26#39;s, fans etc. I park there $20-$25 and drink beforehand and afterword and let the traffic clear out.
There will be lots of tailgaters in the lots surrounding the stadium
If you go on the U ofOregon webpage you can find shuttle stops around Eugene that will take you to the game. Most visiting teams stay at The Vallet River Inn or the Hilton. If you are at the Valley River Inn with the team, there s a shuttle from there to the stadium.
Also, the Mashofsky(sp) center is the indoor practice area. On game days it becomes a huge bar, it opens a few hours before kickoff. they serve beer and wine, lots of TV%26#39;s etc. It is connected to the stadium, the best thing is during the game you can come and go to the stadium during the game, you just cant bring your beer out t the stadium. You need your ticket to get in, but once you are in Mashofsky Center you are in the stadium. As you can image at half time it gets packed
Steph66,
Restaurant suggestions depend on your budget and if your looking local or franchise... We have all the standards around town, Red Robin (VRC), Olive Garden(VRC), Road House(Gateway), Outback(Gateway), etc. Steelhead Brewery on E. 5th Aveis good, If you like Mexican Chapala on 29th is good, North Bank on Club Rd is also nice (by Autzen, go towards Ferry Street Bridge, take left on Club, down under the bridge just past and on the left), The Electric Station is pretty fancy and expensive it%26#39;s down on E. 5th... Gosh there are a lot of good choices all around, ask the hotel staff I%26#39;m sure they will have a lot of good suggestions as well, probably better than mine!
The stadium isn%26#39;t on campus, probably a 5 minutes drive, turns into a 30 minute+ drive game day (unless the game has started of course, then the streets of Eugene become a ghost town! jp) It%26#39;s a beautiful location with a nightmare of a parking lot! There are several different park and ride locations though, Valley River Center, the Fairgrounds (i think), and some other locations, you should definately look into this! Die hard tailgaiting, campers start showing up thursday for the Saturday game, I drive past Autzen everyday so I get to witness this every football season! Take advantage of the tailgaiting this year, cause it could be different next year with the BS the city is trying to pull.
As for Sooner friendly bars, your closest bet would be to go back to OK, cause Eugene just may be Sooner-less! Most fans will be friendly-ish though! Watch for the drunken idiots especially if the ducks lose! There are a couple bars by Autzen, head towards the car dealerships. One is right before the Mercedes-Benz dealer and the other is across MLK Jr. Blvd tucked behing Lithia Dodge. If your willing to drive go downtown, there is a better selection there! Or even head into Spfld to Primetime, it%26#39;s a sports bar with pool and what not. (take MLK east it turns into Centennial blvd, take it all the way to Mohawk Blvd and take a left, you%26#39;ll find Primetime and a few other doozies!)
Overall I%26#39;m sure you will have a good experience, have a great trip and I hope this helped you out some!
