Planning a Romantic Fall anniversary in Oregon.I Need HELP!

I am trying to plan a 3rd wedding anniversary in OR. My wife love the fall and the beautiful changing leaves. She also loves GOOD food as do I : ) and cute places to stay.

I have a few Idea%26#39;s but I am kind of have a budget. I have thought of staying at Opal Creek, they have lodges, but they are $115 +/night, and there are not any places to eat.

I also thought of McMineman%26#39;s hotels%26#39; but I don;t know if they are romantic or not. I have necver been to any of them only via websites. But that doesn;t impress me. Holiday inn even puts out ads that say they are a place for romance.

I would love to drive through senic places, maybe some vineyards...

Please help me out, if you know of any cute romantic places in the willamatte Valley, or coast and some great eats.

Thank,

JP

How many days do you have?

My favorite drives for decent scenery, are the highway east of Portland, 84, past Multnomah and other falls, to Hood River. There%26#39;s not many leaves from Hood River to Mt. Hood, but it makes a nice loop.

Would you consider one night in Timberline Lodge as romantic? Highest lodge in Oregon that I%26#39;m aware of.

The drive along the Wilson River to Tillamook is nice for driving, but don%26#39;t stay or dine in that town. Keep going north to Nehalem Bay up to Cannon Beach.

My favorite northern routes and places are on this page, although not much is listed for eating or sleeping.

We have stayed in Yachats several times on getaways. The Fireside is not too bad and for a little nicer place their sister property the Overleaf. When we stayed at the Fireside we got massages next door at the Overleaf. I think they should have the construction done now. I have heard the Adobe is nice as well as the Shamrock Lodges.

We really enjoy the Drift Inn Restaurant and Pub for a place to eat.

Another idea if you want to go the other direction is the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver. ( http://www.heathmanlodge.com/ ) We stayed there for a meeting my wife had. If it was closer to us we go there for weekend getaways. Beautiful place.

Search on the internet for

Skamania Lodge

It%26#39;s in the Columbia River Gorge.

It might be a little bit expensive.

Hi

I have not stayed in the Oregon Hotel, in McMinnville, but we had lunch there and wandered around the hotel a bit in case we decided to stay in the future. It is charming, and seems reasonable in price. Here is their website with photos of rooms:

www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=7%26id=71

There are nice shops and cafes and bakeries in the area and you can drive from there to the coast or do a wine tasting in one or more of the wineries .

We were just on the Coast and stayed at the Inn at Arch Cape... www.innatarchcape.com

They have fireplaces and they are about a block from the ocean. That is pretty romantic in my book. Their winter rates might be lower than what we paid.

The wonderful thing about Oregon ( to me) is that you can be on the Coast with the ocean on one side and those amazing forests on the other..

Hope this helps..

Thanks! I have looked into McMin.%26#39;s and it looks nice, but I am still looking for other options. I like to have several choices to choose from, but it;s hard when one is on a tight budget. I tried the other places listed above, WOW, were they goreous, but wow, were they too pricey for us now. I am a full time college student, so it%26#39;s to high for us. I am praying for a special! :)

My wife enjoy%26#39;s nice places with charachter, not just a ';hotel room';. For our honeymoon we stayed at the Hotel vintage plaza, which she absolutly loved, the wine, furniture, bakery next door!!

We are looking for something like that, but, different than portland. The drive to other vineyards sounds fabulous. We are planning the 7th of OCT. So, I am hoping for fall leaves for a great scenic drive.

If you guys have any other Idea%26#39;s let me know. Thanks a bunch.

With what you are looking for, I would highly recommend the McMenamins Hotel Oregon! I stayed there a few years ago and loved it. It is right in the heart of downtown McMinnville, with lots of good, inexpensive places to eat too. There is the Red Fox Bakery about a block north of there. Great rustic breads, but they also do soups and sandwiches. A few blocks down is Wild Wood Cafe, which I have been hooked on since someone on PortlandFood told me about it. Fantastic breakfast place, very eclectic decor. I can tell you more if you decide this is the place. But hate to ramble if not, lol!

Oh, another suggestion...out in the gorge. I have tried to make reservations at this place several times, but they have always been full. Good sign...but bad for me, lol! Anyway, check out www.bridalveillodge.com. The rates are very reasonable and it is in a beautiful area.

This isn%26#39;t what you%26#39;re asking for, but since your wife loved Vintage Plaza.... Have you thought about bidding for a Portland hotel on Priceline? From what I%26#39;ve read, if you specify a four-star downtown, you%26#39;ll most often end up in The Benson, just across the street from Vintage Plaza. Bid what you can afford; if they take it, great, if not, no harm, no foul.

Hotel Oregon is probably the better of the two McMenamins properties in/near wine country, but you might also consider Grand Lodge in Forest Grove.

Which two of the Mc Min%26#39;s are located in or near wine country. Sorry, this question might sound dumb, but I am originally from New Mexico. I tried Oregon city but they are all booked up in October. :(
